I’ll be diving the Bell Island Mine in Newfoundland later this year, but I’m having trouble getting my questions answered by the tour operator or the Internet. My questions are mostly about trying to figure out what gear I need to scrounge up because my cave gear lives in Mexico, I live in the US, and I won’t get a chance to go get it before the trip, so I’m trying to borrow the gear I might need. Can those of you who have been help me out? Here are my questions:
  1. Is the mine fresh water or salt water? (I know it’s cold)
  2. Is there complex navigation in the mine? If so, approximately how many jump spools/markers would one need for an OC dive with doubles + Nitrox?
  3. What are the approximate depths and/or estimated dive time for said OC dive with doubles + Nitrox? I need this info to calculate how much light battery time I need, so a basic approximation is ok.
  4. Is a primary reel needed or does the main guide line extend to open water?
  5. If you rented tanks via Ocean Quest, did they have sidemount sets with modular valves? Aluminum 80s or LP85s?
Thank you!
