I'm considering an camera upgrade to a Sony RX100-VII. My Canon G-16 is getting pretty tired... any opinions out there???

I just returned from Moorea' snorkeling with humpback whales. I used my Sony RX100 VII in a Fantasea housing and a friend's Inon UWL-H100 wet lens.

I only got the RX100 VII this summer but also used it on a 2 and 1/2 week safari trip in August.

Lots of menus and features to learn with this Sony but overall the AF (autofocus) and Zeiss lens delivered nice results :)

Also, as mentioned in Africa I traveled very light compared to my friends who hauled big interchangeable lens cameras and huge lenses.

I didn't think I gave up anything in image quality :)

For land shooting I did buy a Small Rig grip with nicely finished wooden handle. See the last pictures for how small the camera is.

The grip helped me shoot the RX100 VII like a larger camera still allowing easy access to the bottom for memory card and battery changes.

It was wonderful to travel so light and make pictures I was happy with :)

I'll continue to do the same underwater!

For Wibble, here is the Small Rig brand handle bracket I used for surface shooting with my Sony RX100 VII on safari.

Looks great! Not seen one of those before

BTW lovely photos. Why didn't you take me with you 😭

An updated version of a humpback whale last month around Moorea' French Polynesia.

It was so incredible I'm going back next October 2022!
