Hey guys, I'm just trying to get ready to take my class. I have paid for it but want to wait till I can do it local in one of the rock queries in Lou. KY. My dive Shop Louisville Dive Ctr. is a great place to learn and the people are talented there, I hope to be as talented one day. Any way long story short just a thought... Is there a test involved in the AOW class like there was in my OW class? It’s too late to call the dive shop and I hope someone can answer me tonight. I am excited is all I guess even though I will be waiting a bit longer :(

On another note I will be diving at Disney World in March at the living seas, I can’t wait.
:)

Thanks guys

if you are training with PADI...there is several chapter reviews to fill out...as well as selecting 5 specialities to advance your training in....each of those has their own requirements....if you need to ask the Dive shop you are training with , and get the books and dvd`s so you can get a head start.....see ya` under

I know my OW test was SSi, I dont know for sure if it will be SSI or PADI? Are the 2 classes held the same way? And other than the home study is there a test after its all over to get the AOW card?

:)

There is no final test for the AOW like there is in the OW program as far as Padi goes.

You do the KR's and some classroom time, then you head to the water for the practical sessions.

Hopefully yours actually teaches you something, unilke the 90% others out there from what I've heard.

If the class is a PADI class, then there will be two dives required. One navigation dive and one deep dive. The other three you will get to choose from the list of specialties.

All of the SSI specialities have an exam but the instructor is only required to give exams on a couple of classes, such as Nitrox and Stress and Rescue. They are all pretty easy. With the SSI program you usually just do a class per day instead of all at once.

I see, I am going to get with my dive shop this week and see what I need. Thanks Al Mialkovsky.... Im just excited to further my skills but am not able to do anything till its warm. Thank You all agn.

I just completed my SSI AOW last summer. Four speciality classes and 24 dives. Now the dives were no problem. I took courses that covered areas I hadn't learned about. I took tests in all the courses.

In my opinion, the SSI version of AOW is more worthwhile than the PADI version.

basically, you just have to know how to master control of your buoyancy & be comfortable with the equipment that you are going to use. when getting your advanced certification in my opinion, you should be mentally as well as physically ready for the training dives that you are going to undergo. proper buoyancy is of the utmost importance since you don't want to damage any corals down there would you? :D you should also be alert for what to do in a drift dive for example. anyways, good luck to you in your AOW. :D how you have many more underwater experiences in the future! :)
