As and advanced diver, I am looking for a educational dive book, to further my knowledge. Not a 'rookie' book for a newbie (although a refresher on a few subgects is not bad), but one that deals with just about everything from theory to safety and medical issues, gear etc.?

I just purchased "Deeper Into Diving" which covers all aspects of diving in fine detail. It is just being reprinted and will be out in a few weeks. If you are really interested in understanding the science behind diving, and/or doing Tech diving, this is a must read.

Second the NOAA Diving Manual. I picked it up on CDRom at Our World Underwater since there was a great sale price on it.

The Lippmann book looks like excellent reading -- thanks for the link.

PADI Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving
PADI Diving Knowledge Workbook

I have to say that, in my opinion, one would be much better off spending money on Clay Coleman's Certified Diver's Handbook than buying the PADI Encyclopedia. I have both, and essentially all the information in the PADI book is in Coleman's, but Coleman's has material not included in the PADI book, and is far better written and more readable. I would not, however, consider either an "advanced" diving book.

Depends on what you consider "advanced". My understanding of the quesiton was dive theory, safety and medical issues, and equipment, etc. All covered in the Encyclopedia. Haven't read Coleman, so can't really compare...

I'll throw in Jarod Jablonski's Fundamentals of Better Diving. It is not about "advanced diving" (quite the contrary), but covers a lot of info that many "advanced" divers are lacking.

I also enjoyed reading and working through TDI's Advanced Nitrox and Deco Procedures manuals.
