I have an older (1997) us divers bcd and it obviously does not have integrated weights. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience integrating some kind of dumpable weight pockets so I can ditch the belt. I could always put the weights into the Velcro pockets but that prevents me from bailing in an emergency. Thanks in advance.

Diverite makes a few options you might be able to add-on - several are ditchable.

You should check "XS Scuba" for the ditchable weight pockets you can attached to the BC's belt. I saw them in their catalog. I don't have the link now since internet is horrible slow where I am in Libya now.

Post a picture of the BC. Some models may allow you to do that. Others not so much. If you are diving properly weighted you shouldn't need to ditch more than a few pounds anyway.
One other item to consider is what will the modification do to the overall function of the unit and how will it affect the ability of others to rescue you.
Rather than trying to jury rig something, you may be better off just buying another BC with integrated weights if you really want them. Personally, I'm not a fan of integrated systems.

I bought some of the XS Scuba weight pockets for my BP/W set up. They are a little awkward but will do the job. Then, while at a local farm supply store called Tractor Supply, I came across cell phone cases for 4.99. They have a hard plastic belt clip that is stout enough I'm not worried about it breaking. They also make a full loop around the belt so there is no chance of them coming off. A 2 or 3 pound hard weight fits perfect, and if you had to ditch, it would not be hard to get the weights out. The belt clip allow you to put it either on the tank cam band or any other strap on your BC.

Just a thought. Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the input. Yeah its an older bc with no real way of adding it. I was thinking of buying replacement weights pockets and attaching them inside the pocket and ditching them the same way they would on a newer bc. The weight belt isn't too much of a problem just trying to modernize my old one.
