Can anyone recommend a good accomodation/dive package for Palau and Yap. I would like to spend about a week in Palau and 3-4 days in Yap.

I believe these packages are much cheaper than liveaboards in the area (although I appreciate you do much more diving on a liveaboard and meals are included).

I am travelling alone and the comfort of my own hotel room rather than sharing with 3 others appeals to me. Any accomodations quite lively at night you can recommend?

I would suggest contacting Sam's Tours www.samstours.com and doing the package in Palau with them, stay at West Plaza Malakal which is close to Kramers which is the best place for nightlife.
Then come stay with us at the Manta Ray Bay Hotel, www.mantaray.com
As for nightlife in Yap, wellll....the mandarin fish have sex every night....

You may want to try Cindy at MDA Guam:

http://www.mdaguam.com

She seems to find the best deals. I booked through Sam's for a trip I took last week and the rates for the West Plaza Hotels was slightly higher than what I got through MDA on some previous trips.

Happy bubbles.

The word "nightlife" and Palau or Yap doesn't really go together. There are some in Palau but don't expect anything more than a nice hangout with music.

I agree with all three above. Won't find much night life unless you hook up with a lively group. We do like hanging at Kramers, good food, good brew. There are a couple of places in town but it's hit and miss. Yap is best left for concentrating on the quite relaxing atmosphere. In Palau we usually dive with Sam’s and stay at the West Plaza Malakal. In Yap we dive with Yap Divers and stay at Manta Ray Bay Hotel. Like marpacifica said, check with Cindy at MDA. She has always been able to set us up with great deals for any diving out here in Micronesia. Give her a call and tell her Bob Gallo sent you.

We did Manta Resort in Yap. The owner Bill is from Texas and does a nice job with food and accomodations and the divemasters really know the spots. We stayed in Palau Pacific Resort in Palau. Bottom line is that it has the only beach on island. One really cool thing is that they have planted tridacnid clams (giant clams) off the beach for years and its awsome what you can see just snorkelling of the beach. I recommend diving with Neco Marine. Check out the trip report on my web site.

The people you see leaving the dive site as you arrive will be the liveaboards.

Agree with those above. Not much of a "Night Life" in Palau or Yap as far as crowded bars. There are great places to sit down have a drink and meet people. In Yap the Manta Bay Hotel has a ship converted to a bar that is great to hang out and meet people. Also Traders Ridge up the hill had a very interesting owner to have some cocktails eat some good food and talk about life. Every place is walking distance from each other.

In Palau, it is worth checking with several of the liveaboards when you get there to see if they have extra spots. Some of the boats will discount spots 40% if you show up in person and there boat is not full (they can shuttle you out to the liveaboard with a day boat). The Palau Pacific resort is the only hotel with a beach. The cheapest way to book it was on the internet directly from their website - no discounts for walk-ins. While the Palau Pacific is not in the city of Koror, they have a free shuttle bus. Cheaper accomodation can be found in the city. The Palau Hotel was only $25-35 for a double with a frig and cable TV.

Most dive shops charged $100 for a 2 tank day dive. The liveaboards did 5 dives per day ...

Regarding Palau Mike is 100% correct. Sams tours and the West Plaza unless you want upscale then the Palau Pacific. Sams can do it all for you...... and Kramers.......yum!
