Looking for any feedback on these two rigs. Have tried the TPII and like it but ran across the Rec2tec and it appears to be very similar in the transitional offerings of rec diving and intro to techical diving.

Both offer differnet wing sizes which I will need if I start diving doubles. I Will be starting my cavern and intro to cave this spring and thought these would be units to start with that I can still use for warm water diving as well.

Thoughts, suggestions, flames, etc.

You didn't indicate in your thread if you were looking into a backplate. Are you? if not, what are your reasons for doing so?

Gator,

I have considered the back plate and still may go that way but not sure due to cost. When I get away from my jacket style BC I don't really want to go back to it for rec diving and I don't want to use a BP for warm water diving. Since I am going to have to give up my current rig and basically start over with gear I thought I could get away with a unit like the TP for my beginning tech. I don't plan on going any further than Intro to Cave so I did not really want to purchase a BP/Wing for that type of diving since I won't have the opportunity to use it all that much. There are some caves within about 5 hrs of here but I certainly won't use it as much as I would like. I will be doing more lake/quarry diving around here than anything other than my two trips a year to caribbean.

Fair enough.

On the price issue, retail for a backplate, harness and STA is 254.67 whereas the Transpac is 318 (wings are a wash because you need them for both).

Any reason why you wouldn't want to dive a plate in the Caribbean? And as far as lake/quarry and cave diving goes I find the more exposure protection I have on the more I like my BP.

Lots of people cave dive with TPs and love them, just making sure it's what's best for you.

Ben

(FWIW I used to dive a ScubaPro S-tek which is a clone of the TP2 and gave it up for a backplate)
