Some may be interested in my new blog on the Huffington Post Science page about the golden anniversary of SEALAB II, which happens to coincide with the current mission at the Aquarius Reef Base, a SEALAB descendant. SEALAB II got started the last week of August 1965 and ran for 45 days - although, as I say, not everyone appreciated the project's significance.
Included in the blog you'll find a link to a recording of one of the more amusing congratulatory calls from a U.S. president. You'll also hear the helium-infused voice of Scott Carpenter, the Mercury Project astronaut who joined the SEALAB program, along with the voice of Capt. George Bond, the father of SEALAB and a chief proponent of saturation diving, which is of course still with us today for long-duration and deep dives . . . Enjoy!
