Heading to Bayahibe next week and debating diving with ScubaFun and ScubaCaribe. Scubafun seems to come highly recommended, but ScubaCaribe is on-site at our hotel. Any advice?
I plan to book a bunch of diving and also a family trip to Saona.

Scubafun is locally owned and owner is on site. Scuba Caribe is a large international company.
I have not dove with Scuba Caribe.
We would definitely dive with Scubafun again. After the first day my husband and I were often dropped off separately with our own dive master/guide. It was great we could putter as we liked, not always diving our air, the boat does have a schedule, but regularly 60 min dives as they dropped us first and picked us up last. They sent a taxi to pick us up and return us to our hotel. (Dreams Dominicus that trip). They rinsed out and stored our gear. We did an Isla Catalina dive/snorkle trip with them. We have done Saona dive trips but with another company. There are several types of Saona excursions, the type you want may best determine who you book with. Ie Diving, snorkelling, speedboat, catamaran, stop at piscina natural (sp?).

Thanks. We will be at the Dreams La Romana which is the old Hilton.
This is great advice and seems similar to everything else I have read. I think I am going to pre-book my diving with Scubafun but wait until we get there to book the family outings.

Sounds like a plan. :-) Scuba Caribe is (was?) also the provider at Dreams Dominicus. They didn’t keep a boat there tho, just pulled in to pick up and drop off people.

Scuba Fun is a small locally owned dive shop, where as Scuba Caribe is a big foreign owned dive shop chain with a huge staff turn over. I have been diving with Scuba Fun pretty much twice a year since 2016. John (the owner) is at the shop every morning, most of his staff are long term employee's (unheard of in the Caribbean) so they know the dive sites well, they will store and rinse your gear while you are diving with them, they will come and pick you up and take you back to Dreams or it is only about a 10 minute walk up the beach to the shop. John & I usually do a dive through the engine room of the St. George wreck when I'm down there if he isn't too busy.
They do both a Catalina & Saona island dive & snorkel excursion. My (non diving) wife & I did the Catalina Island dive & snorkel excursion with them and really enjoyed the trip. Depending on what you are looking for, Catalina island has a lot better snorkeling & diving and it's closer than Saona.
Tell John & Romy that Steve from Canada sent you and I will see them in October.

Sold, and I'm going to drop your name! Plan is to do 3 days of local 2 tank diving then 1 day at Catalina.
