Hi Everyone,

I've been searching the board for A710IS images (I'm thinking about buying one), but haven't found any examples, other than topside photos on other web sites. Does anyone here have this camera and if so, where would I find your underwater pics?

Thanks!

I've been looking for a couple of months as well and haven't come across any either. My impression is that most people seem to go with the A6x0's since they use 4 batteries instead of two (flash recycle is faster and batteries last longer).

I've finally almost got the $$ so it's time for me to decide once and for all. The 710 or the Nikon P4.

Which one did you decide to get? I ended up buying the 710, now I just need to get the housing, etc. :D

i am completely new to u/w photography, though a reasonably accomplished photographer for 20+years.. I am having uploading issues to the gallery but there is at least one pic :) take a look at http://www.scubaboard.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/65432/cat/500/ppuser/68136/sortby/f/sorttime/999/way/asc

having uploading issues, but this is with the a710IS on my first dive...

my impressions of using the a710is?..

1. always load new batteries before each dive
2. leave LCD review time at 4-10secs or so... with your movements slowed u/w my normal 2secs didnt cut it.
3. the "underwater" white balance isnt. it is ok to perhaps 15ft but thereafter there are issues.
4. i found the lcd monitor a little dim for framing in light/bright water (Bonaire, full sun, 35ft)...made it a little more difficult to setup the shot..
5. you have to anticipate the shot..this isnt a DSLR so shutter lag, though decent enough, will get you fish butts until you anticipate and "lead" the shot.
6. Playing with post processing does wonders... this gallery pic is PP with PSP X

have fun, ian

All the photos in my gallery are taken using a 710is. They are the first photos I have taken underwater so take that into account!! I used the camera in automatic underwater scene mode (plenty to think about without getting more complicated at this stage) and have post processed.

Thanks for sharing your opinions and photos. I'm pretty new to u/w photography too and spoiled topside with my rebel slr (film), but the a710is looks like it's a decent point and shoot camera. It'll be fun to check it all out.

Did either of you add a strobe? If so, which one?

Haven't decided yet. Been to busy getting my dissertation submitted to take the time and look for both models and play some touchy feely with them to see which I like beter. I am leaning more towards the nikon though since it seems smaller.

Did you notice much difference using the Superfine and fine options?

I don't have the 710, but I've had a number of Canons over the years, and IMO the difference between fine and superfine so slight as to be difficult to see, at the cost of doubling the filesize in many cases.

I shoot Fine, but this is a hobby, not a living. YMMV.

Just got the 710 today. This is my first digital camera - been using a Rebel for years. Once used to the camera, I guess I'll have to spring for the housing. Is the weight thing necessary?

No diving scheduled until March, in San Diego. Cozumel in April. Hawaii in October. Lakes and quarries here in Minnesota during the summer.
