It seems to be taking 6 seconds for my on-board flash to re-charge between pictures, this is a pain, as my strobe only needs 3 seconds. Does any one out there know what type of battery I should be using? Currently I have some NiMH that are (2) years old. Will newer ones help and if so 2500, or 2100mAh. Any help would be great! Merry Christmas & a happy New Year to all.

Thanks for the input. I'll check out how long with the lower flash setting.

Can your strobe detect a single flash instead of preflash? If so, I'd set the flash mode to slave and use the lowest setting. Then you should have almost instant recycle.

I noticed the same thing. My batteries are new Ni-Mh 2500 mAh batteries , and the camera was replacing my Canon A80. The A80 holds 4 batteries and the a570is only holds 2 batteries. It seems like the flash along with the battery power does not complement the digics III processor, the camera is ready for the next shot before the flash is, resulting in underexposed photos. I understand you can adjust the shutter and aperture, and films speed settings, but in my opinion the camera is underpowered. I have missed lots of shots waiting on the flash to recharge, or the second shot will shoot, but with no flash, but will be really grainy. I tested this out with the two cameras side by side, the a80 has a much better flash recycle rate than the a570is. However, the a570is does take great shots on the first take, but might be problematic on continuous shooting where a flash is needed.
