I just wanted to say Thank you for this forum! I read a lot here and deceided to go with the A 540 and Canon's housing. I just got back from diving in the BVI and I am very pleased with my results, Thanks again!

One of the local stores is offering the A540 for $199 with a 1 GB card. It is tempting me.

I have an A540 too with the cannon housing and i must say, for the price, its feature packed for above and below water. I love it :)

How did you feel about the battery life underwater?

I like the A540 except for having only 2 AA batteries and am thinking about moving to the A620 or A630 for the extra batteries (4xAA), but then those are bigger cameras and not as handy to carry along. Oh decisions, decisions!

I've had no problem using rechargeables. The battery life has been great.

As long as you mange your battery use they can last a long time.

i used the same set of batterys for a whole weekend that encompassed 4 dives, and the same batteries lasted the whole time.

try to use a high capacity battery though, liek 2500mpa or above so you get a consistant flash discharge.

I have the older version of the A540. I have the A520. It works great. I have taken some great pictures of sea horses down at Blue Heron Bridge in West Palm Beach, Fl.
