It all started at Sandal's resort. For free you could take a resort scuba course, 3 hours in the pool for some lessons, then off to the open ocean. Fantastic!!
I decide when we got home to take my Open Water course. I just wanted to get certified, so when we go on vacation, I don't have to keep taking the resort course over. That's all, no local diving. Just gonna save some of my precious vacation time.
Took OW, went well. Well now I spent all that time in class, might as well dive every now and then. But where to dive, who to go with?
Signed up for Advanced OW, I can meet some people there. But its pretty expensive to rent equipment for the course. Off to the dive shop, bought a used BC and a new reg set. And a wet suit. And a hood, gloves, weights. And a tank.
Now that I spent all that money on gear, I better justify using it and dive a little more.
Off to Rescue Dive class. and the dive shop - gotta buy a computer. And another mask. And some of this and some of that.
Three months since my first OW dive and things are getting out of hand. I've got bubbles on the mind.
and then comes winter. Getting to cold to dive. Gotta buy a drysuit.
That BC and reg really aren't that good. Back to the shop - Bought a backplate and wings for my single tank. Bought a set of double tanks and a BP/wings for them. 2 new Atomic regulators and weights and pockets and knive and spools and lights and.....things are spiralling out of control. Too much gear. Got to get in the water.
Good thing I signed up for drysuit class and wreck class, and Nitrox, and Advanced Nitrox and Decompression but most important of all Search and Recovery! That must be some sort of rehab for scuba- holics. So folks, I'm off to recover, hope they can cure me. (If not, I need more tanks, I'm getting into Trimix, and my own compressor, and more lights, and classes, and knives and.......)
The moral of this story kids... Don't dive that very first time and think you can just walk away. Maybe some people can, but some of can't. Diving can become a wonderful addiction;)

Oh, that story sounds SO familiar . . . I haven't got the compressor in the garage yet, but it scares me that I know people who do!

You left out the most important piece of gear: LINK

Yep, sounds familiar...

I was asked today if I like Florida, my answer was "I have mixed emotions, everything below water level I love, everything else I'm not sure.. ".. :D

OMG!!!
You are addicted! Welcome!!!

PS. Lynne if you are in Maui, what are you doing on SB??

I don't think my Suunto would let me get back in the water yet . . .

I was asked this exact question a few days ago regarding the Philippines, with a similar answer ;)

So, what about the photography? Surely you want to capture share what you have seen while diving?? :)
