Ok, so my girlfriend and I have the lifelong goal of going somewhere and getting fruity alcoholic drinks served to us in a coconut. Does such a place exist? We just got back from Key Largo and we couldn't find a single coconut slinging bartender in the area.

Thanks!

Sam

They were all over in the quintanna roo areas. Mexico

My last day in Cozumel, I had a pina colada in a coconut. No, wait. I think it might have been inside a pineapple. Is that close enough?

On the beach at the umbrella bar next to Papa Hogs dive shop.

A pineapple would do in a pinch :) Thanks, sounds like we need to go to Mexico :)

I drink a fair amount of coconut "water" here since we have a lot of them around the yard.
If I were going to ask for a drink served in one at a bar, I'd first inquire about the handling of the coconut before they served me a drink in it. Once it's busted open and the liquid drains out, a lot of organisms will like to feed on the organic matter still inside. Those big, heavy bodied, red ants that also tear apart dead animal flesh come to mind.
I'd make sure that it had been frozen or refridgerated after it was busted open. Maybe take a look at it before they serve it to you and you drink it...or you may spend the next day sitting next to your bathroom in the hotel while everyone else is out diving.

Thanks for killing a dream :(

haha kidding. Wow, that sounds absolutely horrible. But still.... I need to do it someday :) Ideally they would crack it open right in front of me.

there used to be a little stand on the main street in Cozumel that would open the coconut, pour out the "milk", pour in 7 shots of different rums (yes, 7 shots), then top it off with the coconut milk. Best wipe out drink ever. :11: It's called the "cocoloco"

here's my hubby drinking it.

We also saw lots of drinks served in coconuts and pineapples in Hawaii.

Best I ever had was at Bloody Mary's on Bora Bora.....highly recommend it.(PS. if you get there check out the men's latrine, it's a regular "tourist attraction")

Young Island Resort - not only can you get a drink in a coconut, you have to swim to the bar. Bar off the beach tends not to be open unless they're busy though, so maybe not in low season.

Good diving, too.
