Really neat. You can tell there's a P.R. stunt to it, I think. Why fly somebody round trip to get the camera, when you could mail it to them? Or even just mail the media card?

Guess I'm not a big romantic.

Richard.

I agree they seized an opportunity to create good PR, but to call it a PR stunt would mean they had to initiate the whole thing from start to finish. I think it happened and the airline just realized that for the cost of a cheap ticket (cheap to them), their name could get broadcast out in a positive light.

the cost of the airfare is really nothing if they have an empty seat on one of their own planes. However, the PR is significant given the general perception that airlines are price gouging with higher ticket prices and baggage fees.

The funny part is the best PR is probably realized by Canon, and it didn't cost them anything (other than making a durable product in the first place)

That could have been any brand camera/housing. It is worthless after 6 years whether floating around the ocean or sitting on a shelf.

Amazing is it found its way back to the owner.

In my mind, it is important to note that the images/memories are more valuable than the camera/housing. Use the gear, value the images.

Don't think any canon admirers would be bidding on that same camera and housing if it were on ebay. Of course Canon could set up a fake bidding for PR purposes ; )
