Just returned from a 10 day Princess cruise to the Southern Caribbean on which we used the ship's dive op at St. Thomas and Bonaire, scheduled our own dive on Grenada, ;ost two scheduled dives at Dominica due to an itinerary change, and got rained out at Aruba. This was the first time we signed on for the available ship sponsord dive excursions, and it was a good thing we did because Hurricane Thomas forced the ship to reverse its normal route and replace Dominica with St. Kittts. As a result of the itinerary change, trying to rebook five independently scheduled dives would have been a pain in the butt to say the least. Overall I was not impressed with the ship's selected dive op on St. Thomas (dive ssite marginal and inattentive DM), was very pleased with our independently schedule dive with Aquanauts on Grenada, and I was exceptionally surpised and happy with the ship's outstanding dive op at Bonaire which was Dive Friends Bonaire. Having spent a week at Bonaire in September, I figured that even if the cruise's dive op was just OK, the diving would still be great. But the entire dive crew at Dive Friends Bonaire was first class from start to finish. The dive op was just across the street from the ship. I brough my own gear, but from what I saw of the gear supplied to the divers everything looked in very good shape. The dive briefings was the best I have recieved on any dives, and the DMs were extremely professional and very observant and aware of what every diver was doing. You could tell they were not there just to enjoy their own dives but to give us the most enjoyable and safe dive experiences possible. I would highly recommend Dive Friends Bonaire to anyone looking for a good team on Bonaire.

Just got back from Princess cruise that included a dive in Bonaire with Dive Friends. I found their boats small and crowded with absolutely no dry storage and no marine head. The DMs provided little to no information beyond the standard safety briefing. All 16 divers had to be in the water before anyone could go down - meaning some people were just bobbing on the surface for 5-10 minutes. Fortunately the seas were pretty calm.

I figure if I cruise to Bonaire in the future, I'll book independently.

Also, would recommend Aquanauts in Grenada. Had a great dive last year and we had booked them independantly from a cruise.
One thing I would recommend is don't take money on board the dive boats or just fold up in a plastic bag and take down with you - so what if wet on the surface. On one of our dives 6 people had part of their money taken by the boat handler who stayed on the surface while we dived. It wasn't until we came to pay, we did not have enough to pay for the days diving!! We did get the money back eventually from the owners (hence why not saying which island). We have since purchased a waterprrof pouch for money when diving.
