Hi everyone!

My name is Tristan and I am a Dutch developer who's currently working as a programmer on this dive simulation.
We are in its early design stages, and are trying to determine a couple of things that will be essential to the direction we will be taking.
General ideas and feedback are very much appreciated of course, and I was also wondering if it would be okay to ask a couple of specific questions? It would mean the world!

1) Have you ever played a diving game or simulation before?
a) Yes, I have. It was great!
b) Yes, I have, but it wasn't all that much.
c) No, I haven't, but bring it on!
d) No, I haven't and never will.

2) How would you describe your expectations of a diving game?
a) I would expect it to be very realistic, or I wouldn't bother with it.
b) I would expect it to have some realism, but it should be fun mostly.
c) It should be fun first, realism is not important to me.

3) What is your main motivation for diving in the real world?
a) Exploration
b) Collecting footage of underwater flora or fauna
c) Developing new skills
d) Physical challenge
e) You've got it all wrong, I love diving because I...

Please feel free to eleborate on your answers as much as you feel like; it's all useful to us.
If you wouldn't mind also telling me your age, that would be amazing. If not, I totally understand and will still be very interested in your answers.

Thanks in advance on behalf of our team,

Kind regards,
Tristan

I'll bite

1. C (no, never played a simulated diving game)
2. A (Must be realistic or it will be a "cheesy" game)
3. A (Exploring or seeing new things)

I haven't played that many AI games. If done right, this could be interesting.
It would be interesting to have drift dives, bad divers making major no-no's, first person control of weights and equipment, good divers sharing what they see with others in the group, interactive fish, etc.

There must be a goal to the game, or I'll loose interest.

1) Somewhere between c) and d)

2) b)

3) e) …enjoy the serenity.

age: pushing 70, probably not your target demographic

1) d
2) see #1 - no answer applies
3) a

Age - 50+

Not really a gamer.

Good luck!

By the way, there is a way to create a "poll" that would help you collect the answers. Or you can tally them by hand.

All same except 3 e.....I am a serious shell collector.

Wow, thanks for all your kind replies. This is really helping us a lot!

Nice choice of words! :D

Drift diving sounds awesome: I'm going to really push this to become a feature internally. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
We already have a great deal of interaction between divers planned, and I will be working on simulated fish behavior personally (which I'm really looking forward to).

Have you seen this movie? (It's at the bottom of the page.) It made us reevaluate our target audience quite a bit. ; )

Thanks again for your help, and if anyone else would still like to reply please don't hesitate!

Kind regards,

Tristan

3. E. love seeing wrecks and the life that inhabits the ocean. Not necessarily to "explore". But to enjoy gods creation and see something very few have seen before me (wrecks)
