9-18mm lens in Inon dome

Hi Oly clan,

Is there anyone out there who tried the Zuiko 9-18mm lens in an Inon dome port (on Oly housing)??
Do I need an extension ring or will it fit and work well without....

Considered the 7-14....... but reading the reviews of the 9-18, it should work out fine for me! Difference would pay for an extra holiday

Hello Pennywise,

The Inon dome port for Olympus is designed for the 8 mm fisheye lens and only that lens which allows it to be smaller and less expensive. I don't think that the 9 to 18 zoom will even fit behind the dome without an extension ring.

The Olympus port works with the 9 to 18 zoom, 7 to 14 zoom and the 8 mm fisheye.
The 7 to 14 zoom requires an extension port.

Athena is releasing a smaller and less expensive port (around $650.00 with gear and $550.00 without) for the 9 to 18 zoom which looks much like the 14 to 42 zoom port and appears to use the same glass. The 9/18 port however is a different length than the 14/42 and can not be interchanged with the 14 to 42 port.

A gear from Olympus (about $90.00) or Athena (about $100.00) will be required to zoom the lens. The Athena 14 to 42 gear may work for those who already own it.

The two images were taken with the 9 to 18 zoom at 9 mm (100 degree AOV) using the Olympus E-3 in a SeaTool housing with the 170 mm (6.7 inch) Olympus/Athena dome port. Both ports use the same dome glass and are priced about the same.

ISO 100 at f/5.6 for the tube
ISO 100 at F/7.1 for the face shot with the dome about eight inches from the closest point to both subjects. A priority no strobes.
