The heavy rain has begun and winds are definitely picking up. I'm not sure how much longer we will have power. I haven't heard any plans for the electric company to shut power down intentionally, but I suspect that it will happen as the storm gets worse.

The sky is black and it looks like it will be a continuous rain and increasingly stronger winds throughout the day.

Cancun and Isla Mujeres will get it worse than us, but no doubt that we are going to be affected by this one.

I have plenty of candles, batteries, flashlights, bottled water and all the pets plus a few strays are inside for safety.

I didn't board up my windows, but my house has a high wall around the yard and there are protector bars on all of the windows to keep anything big from coming in.

I'll keep you updated as I can.

Christi,

Latest images of the storm show a definate northward turn

The Sun is out....!!!!!!

Well, no, it hasn't really gone out, it is probably just obscured by clouds where you are... Oh, that's not what you mean at all, is it? ;^)

Being from south Louisiana and a veteran of a few hits and many near misses by hurricanes, I know that a near miss to the east is MUCH better than a near miss to the west. I can remember a few hits on the coast just 50-100 miles to the east of where I was when what we got was clear, dry, unseasonably cool weather from the air pulled southward by the counterclockwise rotation of the storm. Here's hoping that the worst has passed for you guys.

Good luck to all the wonderful people in Cozumel, you are in are thoughts and prays.

Good luck - I keep watching the satellite pictures (Looks like maybe it is turning north - fingers and toes crossed) and hoping for the best for all of you. If things go well will see you all on Friday!
