Hello,
I am upgrading my Canon P&S to a DSLR. Currently have a S&S YS-110 strobe. Does anyone have any experience or see any problems connecting and using this strobe in manual mode with the 7D via sync cord? I wanted TTL, but its cost prohibitive to upgrade strobe at this same time, as as far as I can figure, the YS-110 is impossible to hook up via TTL with an Ike housing.

Please give me your thoughts about running the S&S YS-110 with sync cord in manual mode please.

Thank you in advance!
T

Many people use strobes in manual mode (including many professionals underwater photographers). I've been using my D200 underwater for ~5 years with both manual and TTL and have found that TTL is nice for macro, but not necessary. I prefer manual for wide angle photography.

take care,
John

It will work fine. You just need to get the correct sync cord, from Ike to Sea and Sea.

You might skip the synch cord, just use some fiber optic and be done with it. It's cheap, easy and reliable (unlike a synch cord!). A quick search entering "fiber optic" will give you ideas, sources for kits etc. The 110-A has a standard slave socket in front of the strobe and the same cord can be used on any housing, using a velcro-like attachment system. // ww

Thanks Guys! Im going to try the sync cord route. I am using the YS-110 with a fiber optic cable and velcro mask system, only problem is you can not adjust strobe output, only in manual mode with sync cord.
Cheers
