3gb cf card

just came back from the las vegas PMA show. i was suprised to see that they had 1.5, 2, and even 3 GB cf cards! technology just keeps zoomin ahead.

"They" are a company called Pretec... The 3GB CF card will not be available until later this year - at a price of around $2,500...

That's right.... $2,500.00 USD..... Pretec's new CF ... Additionally, I hear that Hitachi will come out with a 4GB micro-drive in Fall of this year...

I don't get it... But then, I don't shoot digital! ...Why wouldn't somebody just get two 1GB IBM micro-drives (at $230USD/ea) and portable digital storage device, something like the X-Drive (usb 1.1 w/ 40GB @ $300USD) or X-Drive II (usb 2.0 w/ 40GB @ $450USD)? ... For $750 - $900, wouldn't this make more sense??

Of course it makes more sense financially to go with several smaller cards. 1gig cards can be had for less than $300 each now and 512's for between $100-$150 depending on brand, etc. I'm happy with my 256 mb xD's and 512 mb CF's. I can get 71 pictures on the 256 xD card with the camera set at SHQ and 140 on the 512 CF's . With one of each in the camera that's 211 shots per dive if I need them.

i take it from the double card scenario you have the 5050?

is the SHQ size (pixel x pixel) bigger on the 5050 than for the 3040 and 4040, because with a 128 SM i can get 60 photo's on the 3040?

Yes, I have the 5050. In the 5050, SHQ is 2560 X 1920. The dual card set-up is pretty cool.
