Hey all!

My wife and I went on a diving trip to Asia earlier this year and loved it! We dived in Indo, Thailand, Malaysia & the Philippines and went from rank amateurs with just a OW to over 60 dives and our AOW and Nitrox certs.. by no means experts but are now quite comfortable in the water.

With the Jan Au Day long weekend coming up fast, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of where we could possibly go dive? I'd take the Monday off so we would have Sat 22/1 -Tues 26/1 (included) off. I would prefer liveaboards but if none is available then, so be it. We can fly anywhere domestic (based in Sydney) and looking up at the Barrier reef as we've nerve dived it before.. Any ideas would be great!

Try Heron island, lady Elliott island or Lizard island if you can't find a scheduled liveaboard to suit!

If you come up as far north as Cairns then there are lots of over night trips available. For the 3 day 2 night look at Ocean Quest, Scubapro or Kangaroo Explorer and these run every day to the Outer Reef.

Cheers mate. I've been since told by a very trusted source to try and stick to a small diver or yacht operator for the liveaboard. I don't want to get herded in with 20+ tourists and am prepared to pay a little extra for that.. Is there anyone you recommend?

Very difficult to find smaller boats for over night trips as its not that economical. Most have 40 or so passengers but they are big boats and a wide variety of dive sites.

The only small one around is Coral Sea Dreaming which is more a snorkel sailing experience that does offer diving as an extra.

Takes 12 passengers and departs Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. So you would have to look at Saturday 22nd to fit in with your dates.
