1964 La Spirotechnique Tank Hydro Specifications

Hello SB,

Recently a friend gave me a 1964 La Spirotechnique 12L cylinder. It is not threaded for 3/4NPSM, but was hydro’d in North America (where I am located).

I have access to several competent hydro shops using the Galiso or Hydro Test Products systems.

From what I understand, the service pressure is 174 BAR and test pressure 294 BAR.

I assume I could have it tested to UN/ISO standards as long as there is a test pressure as it could be legally tested in Canada for “Export” purposes.

Nope. As it has no marks that are recognized Canada no requalifier will test and stamp it. They may test it but they will not stamp it. That is the cylinder must have TC marks or UN/ISO marks. That cylinder has neither.

The fact that is was previously requalified 55 years means nothing.

I do recall that there are provisions for testing and exporting foreign cylinders. TDG 1.27, 1.49, and B340 6.5.1 are the pertinent documents. Perhaps I answered my own question. Thanks for the input though.

Here is the clause in B340. This is the 2002 edition, although I doubt the 2025 edition has amended this clause greatly.

My initial post was in regards to the UN/ISO rather than the export. That said, you are not going to "export" the cylinder. So again, it can not be requalified for use in Canada.
