There must be some brain damage from holding it that long... I've heard of similar feats before where the person has a condition called bradycardia, which basically means their resting heart rate is below 60bpm. Use less oxygen, or rather, use it more efficiently and giving their blood that maximum gas exchange rate is my guess.

The term relative bradycardia is used to explain a heart rate that, while not technically below 60 beats per minute, is considered too slow for the individual's current medical condition. That does mean that everyone with a resting heart rate below 60 BPM suffers from this.I myself have a resting heartrate of 51 BPM but that is due to long time athletic conditioning and there is no way I can hold my breath for more than 1 minute and 30 seconds.

I've seen it done, actually everyone at one of the tEK conferences watched it done by a well know diving physician, I've forgotten who. He said that after breathing pure oxygen for a half hour it was no big deal. He went 15 minutes and didn't see the need to call the Guinness people.

I think it's some Houdini-esk BS.

Yea, i think so too about that:D

What?

Are you serious?

I'm a fat lard and I can hold my breath for 90 seconds.

You can hold your breath for 1 min 30 seconds while exerting yourself such as kicking hard or a walking ?that is what I am reffering to while exerting myself .

I don't really get that because normally your 02 saturation ( to Hgb) runs around 98 % and huffing 100% doesn't really change that too much, so the exchange gradient does not change.
I have a couple friends who freedive to 150-60 ft and look totally stoned and blissed out the whole time. It is fascinating. I get into deco just trying to get their pictures.
