12/29/12 Arrival in Bonaire

Arrived in Bonaire late ~3:30. DAE flight from Curaçao 4 hours late. While waiting in the airport at Curaçao I realized I left my lovely wife's birthday present at home. Dammit! Planned the trip to celebrate new years and her birthday in Bonaire. Checked in at Coral Paradise. Chatted w/ Naomi, Kenny, & Margaret. Managed to get a dive in despite arriving late. Dove Cliff to La Machaca. Always a nice dive. Huge bonefish, several eels one black & yellow, grouper, spiny urchins, tarpon. Got groceries, & takeout at Bobby Jeans - ribs, chicken kababobs w/ peanut sauce, chicken leg. Good, not great. Got enough for leftovers for lunch. So good to be back!

Just left Bonaire yesterday after 10 days and we liked the Cliff dive so much we did it on back to back days. Really nice dive. We also had really great dives just a little further south, in front of our hotel, Den Lamen. On 2 separate dives on Bari Reef, we saw a very unshy spotted eagle ray in about 30 feet where the sand and coral meet.

I too love Bobbijans. My fav is the fresh fish, fries and salada. Amazing..not as cheap as it used to be but my go to spot at least once a month. Kontiki is my favorite lunch spot with sweeping views of Lac Bay and the prevailing trades. Their Dutch Kibbling is amazing...fresh fish and chips....had a lovely New Years Day lunch..sublime.

We have discovered that that peanut sauce sold at the big grocery store is pretty dang good also!

Chasin, whenever I fly to the US, friends beg for me to bring some pinda saus home..I personally don't love it unless eating it in Bonaire...
