I've sold some cattle and worked a bit over the summer, and thus have aquired a bit of money. I'm thinking of putting some of this money toward one of the $500-range HID lights. To stay within that price category would mean either the Sea Elite (http://www.diverssupplyusa.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=17764) or the Dive Rite 10watters. Any opinions on either of these lights? Also, if I went with the DR one, would it be worth the mere $50 to get the focousable one? This light would be used for basic wrecks, with cave in the future, as well as open-water stuff.

thanks!

I purchased the DR used and have been happy with it for the couple of dives I have done with it. Since diveriteexpress is having a sale on them, I think that they are a good buy.

I can't comment on the sea elite.

Good luck and I am sure you'll love whatever you get. I just need to figure out where the best place to get the replacement bulb for the DR with the MR-11 head.

How is the beam on it? Also, is yours the focusable or non-focusable one?

FYI (and you probably already know this), the Sea Elite is actually a Barry miller (Salvo) light.

Yep...but thanks anyway. I seem to recall you have a can light, no? Which one is it (assuming I'm right...)?

Two out of the 3 DR 10 watt lights that my buddies own have been back numerous times for floods, bad chords, and other problems. They say DR has great customer service, but I wouldn't want to have to use it. Maybe for the "big sale" they have going it might be worth trying one, but I'd go with the Sea Elite/Salvo light. Nothing but great reviews and also good customer service. Your $$$ and my $.02.......
