10ft Great White spat me out

A DIVER being swallowed head first by a Great White shark escaped — by jabbing the beast in the eye.

The 10ft Jaws had chomped Exxx Nxxxxx’s HEAD, crushing his mask and breaking his nose.

It took a second huge bite and crunched Exxx’s torso, swallowing his head and shoulders.

But the superfit dad wrestled an arm free and stabbed the beast with a chisel.

Only then did it spit him out after ripping chunks of flesh from his head and stomach.

After pals dragged him on to a boat Exxx joked: “I wasn’t ready to be lunch.”

The 41-year-old then passed out from massive blood loss before being flown by helicopter to hospital.

Aussie Exxx was attacked while diving for abalone shellfish at Cape Howe — 250 miles from Sydney. He had been using the chisel to prize the delicacy from rocks.

He was hauled from the water by son Mxxx, 25, and pal Dxxxxx Lxxxxxxx. Dxxxxx said he was partly saved by wearing a metal diving vest that holds lead weights.

He added “Exxx literally escaped form the jaws of death. In those vests you look like a metal armadillo, but it probably saved him. Exxx is a tough boy — he’s superfit. But it would test anyone’s resolve, being a fish lunch.

“We’ll have to call him Jonah.”

Shark expert Bxx Cxxxx added: “This guy was extremely lucky.”

Last night Exxx was critical but stable.

There are around 15 shark attacks a year in Australia, with one being fatal.

Australian Diver Survives Great White Attach
Shark grabs him by the head; diver pokes it in the eye

January 23rd, 2007

SYDNEY, Australia – According to an AP report, a diver escaped a 10-foot shark's attack by poking the animal in its eye after it had already chomped on his head once and was preparing for another bite, witnesses and officials said Tuesday.

Exxx Nxxxxx, 41, was flown to a hospital with serious injuries to his head, body and left arm after the attack Tuesday off Cape Howe, about 250 miles south of Sydney.

The shark grabbed Nxxxxx by the head, crushing his face mask and breaking his nose. The shark, believed to be a Great White, came back for a second bite, clenching its jaws around Nxxxxx' torso and leaving deep lacerations in his side, said a fellow diver who witnessed the attack.

Nxxxxx wrestled free of the shark's jaws, and later told rescue workers he had poked the shark in the eye.

Nxxxxx was pulled from the water by his son and rushed to a hospital, suffering blood loss and shock.

Shark attacks are relatively common in Australian waters, home to some of the world's deadliest sea life. Scientists say there are an average of 15 shark attacks a year in Australia — one of the highest rates in the world — and just over 1 per year are fatal.
