I have just heard over BBC World Service that over 100 whales are at present stranded off the coast of Madagascar. It seems that about 30 of them have already died despite efforts to save them.
It is heartwrenching to hear of such news and feeling quite helpless to do anything.I wonder what resources are avaible there in Madgascar to rescue these whales.
It seems that Exxon have been conducting seismic surveys in the area but of course the corporation denies any responsibility. Perhaps the marine biologists on Scubaboard can add to this. I suspect that the sonar must have played a part in this.
Have not heard which species of whales are stranded. Is there some way in which such survey activities can be conducted with precaution against harming marine animals?
