stainless steel fin

I've just broken a bungee fin strap and was considering going to stainless steel. If my bungee strap is 36cm including buckles in length, should I get the same length in ss? Is it a direct conversion or is there some factor (stretchiness??) I don't know about which would need me to size up or...
