    Proper weighting

Is it bad or at least undesirable, to be weighed such that you have to actively swim down to submerge? I suppose that it takes more air while descending, but then you need less air in your BCD. That should make staying neutrally buoyant easier. What do you think?

    Too weighted and too buoyant

Advanced, nearly 200 dives. In Malaysia, using lined dive skins. Never had a problem like this. Typically relaxed diver, good air consumption rate. I had to have extra weight to get down, first dive and then more on the next. However, on none of my dives was I able to remain at the safety...

Recently certified - buoyancy a mess. Would PPB help?

I am a newly certified OW diver (3 weeks at the time of writing). And I have done 1 guided dive since. So total 5 dives, 4 being a part of the course. So as new as new can be. I didn't take to scuba naturally, needing 2 attempts and the 2nd being a private course so it worked at my pace. My...

Buoyancy suggestions for 2kg macro rig (Nauticam carbon fiber arms, etc.)

After years of struggling with some annoying negative buoyancy issues with my macro rig, I am thinking to invest into some better float arms to help with shooting. Setup as follows for a total of about 2,000g (+/-) weight in air: Nauticam LX10 housing (about 850g) Panasonic Lumix 10 camera...

Drysuit diving - continual issues with air in legs/feet.

Hi all, Just completed my first pool dive for the drysuit specialty. We used a wing bcd with it, which was a first for me. I found that if I got horizontal (as we should when at the bottom) the legs and feet would fill with air as I kicked, slowly at first and then more quickly as time went...

The Jet Fin Buoyancy Conundrum With Neoprene Suits

Hi everyone I‘ve been reading this forum for a long time and I‘ve just recently decided to start my first thread. I just bought a pair of Jet Fins since I read everywhere that they where the best for cave7tech diving diving, which is mostly what I do since I live in cave diving paradise. Also I...

S80 buoyancy aid for multi-stage dives

Hello everyone, (long-time lurker, first-time poster). Background: I am a diver from Czech Republic, OC, highest qualification would be Cave. Mostly diving dams or freshwater lakes nearby. I usually switch between SM and BM, but the question is only for open water "deep" (40-50m) dives...

Question XDeep Zen vs Zeos and Steel vs Alu

It's time for my own BCD and I'm looking for XDeep Zeos and Zen. As many others before me I have a problem with choosing the proper lift capacity. Usually I dive with 7mm wetsuit (sometimes with a vest) with boots, 12 Lts tank and usually I have 4 kgs extra. I'm 1,70 and usually I weight between...

    Buoyancy practice for beginners

Hi, I'm a new diver and one of my goals is to improve my buoyancy control, however there are no classes for that in my area as far as I know and I'm not sure that I would be able to attend one anyway. My question is: What are some practice exercises that I can use to improve my buoyancy skills?

    Determining Minimum Wing Lift

This is probably more of a physics question than anything. Determining weight to achieve neutral buoyancy at the surface is pretty easy. How exactly does one determine added negative buoyancy at deepest depth? In theory would this not determine minimum wing lift needed without ditching weight...

Steel 120 Question (Normally dive Steel 100)

Quick Question: How many more pounds would you use with a Steel 120 vs with a Steel 100 to factor in the slightly more buoyant properties of the 120 toward the end of a dive? Explained: A buddy is letting me hold onto his Steel 120’s as he is a CCR diver and never uses them, so I gave them a...

    Camera too positive Buoyant

Hi there, I just test my camera setup today with an Acrylic Dome Port, my set up is quite positive buoyant in freshwater, mainly because of the dome port, how to offset that, make it neutrally buoyant? Anyone has some tip? Also If I cannot change anything should I add few more pounds to my...

Advise in getting back to dive

Hello, Just to give some background about my diving history, I got my OW in Oct 2016 and did around 10dives. During my dives I always had issues with trim and buoyancy so decided to take some course to improve my diving. I took AOW in 2017 assuming this will help me in learning new skills and...

Halcyon vs. OMS and BP/W Specs Question

Hello! I am fairly new to diving and was hoping you all with far more experience and knowledge would be able to help me out. I have a few questions. BCD management under an overhang - unintended rising

Hi all, Not sure if this is the best section of the boards for this query, but here goes. 2nd post regarding my trip to Komodo National Park, Indonesia over Christmas, and there were 2 scenarios I found problematic here. I'll post them separately I'm a PADI OW diver, some 35ish dives. One...

    Camera Buoyancy

I just finished my Uw set up Noted that I’m using 8” Acrylic Dome so I will need to add counter weight to hold the dome port down. Travelling with Carbon float arms

    Trim, Buoyancy and Weight Placement

Question for all the trim gurus out there. I currently use 10lbs total in saltwater. 2 lbs each in my bcd trim pockets (up high on the hydros pro) and two 3 lb weights on my belt. I have a trip coming up in February and want to try to get rid of the belt (its a pain in the ass with a crotch...
