    Basic GoPro question

+1 (Hero 3+ has no QuikCapture :(). Except on long enough dives (>60 min), my batteries won't last the whole dive, so I still have to switch off.

Getting the green out of a GoPro

I have the Hero3+ with official filter (red for ocean) and have actually never had a problem with bubbles. The holes around the edges seem to be big enough that water gets in easily. Definitely +1 on adding a light. I use the SeaLife Mini Sea Dragon 600 clipped to the bottom of a selfie...

Pushing the Limits of GoPro - Where to go from here?

Yeah, my batteries wouldn't make it a full 70-90 min dive in Cozumel, so I had to switch off between shots, which caused me to miss a couple things. But, the fog issue is easily avoided by putting a couple of those paper desiccant inserts in the housing. Just regenerate them with a hair dryer...

Pushing the Limits of GoPro - Where to go from here?

Have you considered just adding an LCD Touch BacPac (and extended back door for your housing) so you can see what you're shooting? I am also using the Hero3+, but the focal length is just too long to get good macro. I think I will try a macro lens (external) on my next trip.

Suunto Vyper 2 (2007) ghost diving / depth glitch - replaced with Vyper Air for free!

I searched a bit and didn't see any explicit mentions of this: Took out my 5-year old Suunto Vyper 2 (purchased from a registered dealer in 2007 & registered online) in preparation for a trip earlier this summer and it started showing variable depths even when not wet. :worried: Took it to my...

    Where to dive in Hawaii?

I agree with everything posted upthread about renting a car - necessary and worth it. As for other places, you might see what there is in Hilo, on the other side of the island. We spent a day driving from Waikoloa down around the south end of the island, taking in the black sand beach (and...

Night Manta Ray Dives on Kona?

Mrs. DivingPanda and I just did this dive in December with Jack's Diving Locker. Haven't had a chance to post a report here, but it was really a spectacular dive and well worth it! My impression was that the night dives are set up at the same place every night (Garden Eel Cove for us), because...

    Dive Report: Disney Epcot DiveQuest

Mrs. DivingPanda and I did the dive last April and enjoyed it (didn't have a chance to report back here). The staff was great and the equipment was all in good shape. However, I will note that, as others have reported in other threads, the fish and other animals do not look healthy, and that...

Help - Traveling to Turks & Caicos

I can highly recommend Royal West Indies as well. Family friendly but still classy. Great value - decent sized studios and large 1BR suites - both include washer/dryer w/ soap and kitchenette (studio) or full kitchen (1BR). Excellent service at the restaurant. Friendly staff. Free use of...

Turks and Caicos Shore/Shallow water diving

Thanks for the info, guys - we'll be sure to check it out when we're there in July. Where do you get tanks for the shore diving? We'll be diving with Dive Provo.

Turks and Caicos Shore/Shallow water diving

We're going to T&C this summer and my understanding is that there is no shore diving there. If you've ruled out Bonaire and Grand Cayman (FWIW, I'd rethink finding a way to get to Bonaire), then take a look at Curaçao - we were there last summer and I posted a trip report in the ABC Islands...

Trip Report, La Parguera, Puerto Rico - December 26-30, 2009

IIRC, Aguadilla is about a 30 min drive from Rincon, so you can drive up there and do some shore diving in the afternoon & evening. Our night dive in Aguadilla was at Crashboats Pier. You can contact one of the Aguadilla dive shops for directions, tanks, and a guide if you desire. Enjoy! Our...

What do you carry in your BCD pockets?

Interesting thread! I'll need to check out the wet notes & bungee loop! I have a weight-integrated BC, so there's just enough room for: Left pocket: -Slate & tables -Gloves -Foldable snorkel Right pocket: -SMB (clipped off to a small plastic D ring just outside the zipper) -Finger spool...

    Current Curacao water temps

You can think about getting a 1mm rash guard as well. We find it great for some extra core warmth at the end of a week of diving.
