Just bought my first Dry Suit - wondering if I made a mistake

User-replaceable seals are typically a good idea. Most people diving in my area have them or wish they did. They are especially relevant to you if, as you say, no one can reliably replace seals nearby. A fellow diver just tore a seal on my last outing. Unfortunately for him, he had the wrong...

Looking for a good video editing laptop

Great topic/discussion. What should one look for in a screen/panel? Thanks!

Who travels with a spare mask and why?

On one of my last trips a diver set their mask on the center table of the boat... something knocked it off and it shattered on the floor. I had just started bringing a spare mask - now I'm sure to bring a spare.

Its official - you're a bad person if...

So, I paused "The Good Place" during season 1, episode 1 when Michael is explaining the point system... You lose 53.83 points if you "disturb coral reef with flipper".

Poll Drysuit Socks Or Attached Boots

Started with the old DUI "turbo" sole which is like a sock with a minimal rubber sole on the bottom only. I tried that a few times using different techniques and fins then decided to have full boots attached. I went to DRIS in person and selected a boot - I ended up with the USIA Ultimate...

    What is your favorite mask?

Original Cressi Big Eyes. I've been trying to find a second/back-up mask that is as good or better. I've tried a few others including a new/updated(?) Big Eyes, Big Eyes Evolution and Atomic Frameless. My first Cressi Big Eyes works the best for me. The newer one is okay but somehow not...

How many dives before you cease to be a beginner ? [Poll]

Early in my (non-diving) career I marveled that someone had 30 years of experience. A coworker said: "yup - the same 5 years of experience 6 times".

    Good diver watch brands?

I've used a number of dive watches for swimming and diving. For analog, I like a quartz/solar/ecodrive under $200. One that follows the basic dive watch iso spec... 200m, unidirectional bezel, etc. I like the bezels that have ticks for every minute, not just for 0-15 or 0-20. I second the...

Using a Bum Bag/Fanny Pack for SMB?

I did something similar on my last warm water trip... attached this to my back plate with two quick links. It worked fine and I could deploy the smb fine. It is a minor nuisance when setting up on the boat because it lies down about were you're going to sit. Now I just clip it to a hole in...

    Pool exercises/games for kids?

I showed my kid some hand signals and it turned into a game... e.g., pretend you see a shark and have to go up.

Why choose LP tanks over HP Steel tanks?

Thanks for the conversation. I've been noodling on this as well. Here's a source: How to Select a SCUBA Tank | Dive Gear Express®

Trip report: Blue XT Sea Diving/Secrets, Sunscape Sabor

During my recent stay at the Sabor in March, my dive op picked up at the Secrets pier each morning, as did other dive ops. I didn't encounter the so-called pier "police" until the fourth day when a guy randomly was there with a polo and clip board as I was unloading at lunchtime. The skipper...

    West Palm Beach Recommendations

I did a two-tank trip with Kyalami Charters out of Jupiter last year - one of the best operators I've used. Juno Ledge was a memorable dive there. Near the end of that dive there were some sharks that buzzed close by - pretty cool.

    Aldora March 2018 Trip Report

Water temperature of 78.8 degrees F is what my computer reported. I think I got the "media embed" working now for the photos. I stayed at the Sabor with a large group of non divers. The food was decent, but there were a lot of complaints about the rooms being in disrepair.

    Aldora March 2018 Trip Report

I dove four morning 2-tank trips with Aldora. The boats were quick and we went to some cool sites - Palancar Caves, Columbia Deep, Maracaibo. The 120cf steel tanks were a little bigger and heavier, but not crazy. I was eventually able to wear zero lead with a 3/2 full wetsuit. The 3/2 was a...
