What does your choice of scuba gear say about you?

Here is what RJP looks like: http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/tips/9215_Makeover_for_a_Dorky_Dad/ From this thread: Is ScubaBoard representative of the diving population at large?

    Book Recommendations

NOAA Diving Manual is a must for general 'scientific' info and tables, Bennett and Elliott's for diving medicine, Deco for divers by Mark Powell. Cheap shot at someone with all of four posts in 'Basic Scuba'. That search will come up with a library. I picked three titles for the OP, how...

How do you start ERD / Public Safety Diving?

or nurse, sheriff, or most any type of first-responder. They have all the basic training down pat. Doesn't mean that now and again one can't wangle into training with them if your safety courses are up to date. The stories alone are worth the price of admission.

How do you start ERD / Public Safety Diving?

I've taken many PSD courses by contacting the agency first and offering to be a paying add-on. Typical for the agency that I trained with, a fire company hosts the class and advertises within the profession. Other companies send paid participants. They often come up a diver or two short of...

Wire Terminal Sources... Don't crimp my style!

Got it. I think that the issue is that your world is 20 gauge wire and thinner, I too would use Molex type connectors in that range. I'll use barrel connectors for 14 gauge and larger wire until something better comes along.

Wire Terminal Sources... Don't crimp my style!

I'm not so sure. A properly made barrel connector is best in my world. See pic. (does not show soldering or heat shrinking) Are the open U connectors that you use made of phosphor bronze?

Wire Terminal Sources... Don't crimp my style!

Newark Electronics has everything. (https://www.newark.com/w/c/connectors/crimp-terminals-solder-terminals-splices/spade-crimp-terminals?st=connectors spade&gs=true) Your double-crimp connectors look like Molex products. I would suggest getting Thomas & Betts spade connectors and use a...

    SAC rates for "Everyday Joe's"

This is well outside of my diving. I'll leave further comments to people who regularly do similar diving (such as @boulderjohn).

    SAC rates for "Everyday Joe's"

So everyone will dive the same depth and runtime? What is the rough depth and estimated runtime?

How do you want to measure the reserve, in cuft/liters or psi/bar? Is everyone diving the exact same tanks?

    SAC rates for "Everyday Joe's"

Calculate your 'couch SAC'. Get a fresh tank, mask, couch, and TV. Relax and get your optimal baseline as something to compare your real world diving to. Comparing to other divers comes later...

    Question Air Hog

Swimming at a rate that you feel that you are working to keep up. Holding hands is great, you can tug to signal 'slow down'.

    Question Air Hog

I will go out on a limb and suggest wife needs to slow down. If you feel that you are trying to keep up with someone then you are almost certainly over exerting yourself.

    Question Air Hog

Sweet. That is hard to improve. Who is the usual leader in your dives, you or your wife?

    Question Air Hog

How much do you have on your weight belt when diving as usual with an 80?
  19. lowviz

    Question Air Hog

Correct, a diver is saving nothing for his/her buddy if they are the gas hog and running out of gas. You ALL need to bring more gas or do shorter dive times. In short, you need to bring more emergency gas when diving with a gas hog.

    Question Air Hog

^^ No. If you are buddy diving then he is carrying your emergency gas and you are carrying his. Seems that the diver in question used up his gas, your emergency gas, and now wants more...
