    Travel insurance

Speaking of reading the policies, has anyone had the trouble I have had getting the POLICIES for what we buy from DAN? I think their employees do not understand the difference between the info brochures they publish and the actual policy contract between the purchaser and the underwriter...

BCD Remove / Replace Midwater - Backplate BCD w/ Long Hose

Oh yeah I agree-absolutely. And it would be my last resort if I was in a dry suit. Lot of bad things could happen there, but if I was diving dry regularly I would practice to make sure I got my procedures down. Quite a few people in this tread talked about having to take their stuff off...

BCD Remove / Replace Midwater - Backplate BCD w/ Long Hose

No, not recently. I don't know how many merit badges he had but he had been doing UW archaeology working diving for at least 20 years at that point.

BCD Remove / Replace Midwater - Backplate BCD w/ Long Hose

I was diving on the U-1105 Black Panther sub in the Potomac River (Washington DC area) with my underwater archaeology group one day and one of our divers came up with a handful of monofilament line and netting. He said he came up under it on the sub and had to take his rig off to cut himself...

BCD Remove / Replace Midwater - Backplate BCD w/ Long Hose

I have done this a number of times. When you hear something bubbling back there, you should check it out. It is helpful to know it it is just a tank o-ring leak or if you have a more serious problem like a hose crack at the ferule. This is particularly the case when you can't really trust the...

    Missing diver.

Thanks to "nwflyboy" the "somewhere" I heard it was here also. See post #57, two above yours. I have never run into it at all, but most of my diving in the last 10 years has been either in Coz with the same shop owner, Bonaire (shore based) or Grand Turk where they know us well. My possible...

    Missing diver.

I heard somewhere that PADI dive shops (probably just some PADI shops) are requiring divers with only OW certs to stay above 60' regardless of their experience. Not sure how widespread that is, or even if it is true, but I would consider it just to be an attempt to extort more revenue from...

    Casa Mexicana Breakfast Question

I recall that they would let you buy in to the buffet and get the blue wrist band when staying at Colonial or Bahia, but it was a significant add on--like $15/day. Sounds high but the rooms at the other two were considerably lower.

    Atomic users

I thought that to be the case about old vs new Atomics, but didn't want to say so for fear someone would correct me aggressively. I was told years ago that the two guys who originally started Atomic copied their design from ScubaPro where they worked. True? False? My 20 year old ScubaPro reg...

    Atomic users

Put this in the category of personal testimony rather that expert opinion. I bought titanium Atomic and Scubapro rigs about 20 years ago and am still using them. Probably the only things that saved both of them from bad service at local dive shops was that they were titanium. I bought them...

Sherwood Avid BC Tank Strap Brackets Failed

Definitely better than the original. Why didn't Sherwood think of that instead of denying the problem existed?

    Casa Mexicana Breakfast Question

I didn't see any reserved signs, but most people seemed to eat at the same tables during my stay there. We had a group of 10 or so and kept the same two pushed together tables for our entire trip. Cynthia is a rather controlling force in the dining room area; she will set up tables for larger...

    Casa Mexicana Breakfast Question

I did not see any evidence of people having ordered the previous night, but I wasn't paying any attention to that. The buffet line is set up on the mezzanine as pre-2020, but there are glass screens over the pre-made food. You pick out what you you want and a server dishes it out. Same thing...

    Casa Mexicana Breakfast Question

My group just got back on March 3 (5 days ago). We were there for 10 days. No problem with breakfast. I was there when it opened every morning, although I didn't have to be, and the most I saw in line at 7am were maybe 4 folks. The pancake/egg cook had her procedures down very well so she...

Solo traveler looking for ideas for a <$2,500 weeklong vacation

I wonder if they still dive the Russian freighter in Pensacola. Haven't heard about that in years.

Solo traveler looking for ideas for a <$2,500 weeklong vacation

Hahaha. Now that you are broken in, so to speak, try spearfishing in bad vis (<20') water. I recommend the Florida Panhandle for this heady experience--if they will still let you spearfish there.

I used to have that problem also. Then I found the secret to the conflict between full stomach and air consumption. Eat all you want but don't breathe so often.

    Casa Mexicana Breakfast Question

When we were there last March (2021), our group took Jamie and his wife out to supper. I can report that he is happy in his retirement, as he calls it and spends his time with hobbies. His wife said he should get out more. Ditto on Vincente and Gustavo. There are some other new people...
