    Bad day at Breakwater

I was involved with the First rescue along with several others. I do not believe the victim survived. I was there assisting with a class and heard people calling for help. I heard of a second incident where an unresponsive diver was also pulled from the ocean later in the afternoon. My...

    Bad day at Breakwater

Just a reminder for everyone out there. You can call a dive for any reason at any time. Even if you’ve not made it to the water or if you’re just walking out, stay safe. You can always dive again another day.

    Finally going to Maui

I am comfortable on ocean boat dives, and since im really hoping to do the Hellfire and Molokini I don't mind making the drive. I would assume my wife wants to relax by the ocean and probably have some things to look at. Diving wise I have no concerns about either of the two sites. I would...

    Finally going to Maui

So after years of wanting to go to Maui and not being able to make the surface swim from Monterey I finally am getting to go there. I'm looking into dive shops and have a couple emails out but suggestions are always welcome. Looking to dive the Hellfire and the crater. Anything else is gravy...

    Conditions at BW

Dove Breakwater on the 27th... the sea was more like a lake and the weather was amazing... Underwater was another story. Hazy, green, and super chunky especially around the kelp (you could feel the chunks hitting your face). Once out below 40 fsw it opened up a little but the temp dropped a...

    Info on Fresno, Central Valley

I used to live in Fresno until I moved up here for work, but still go there every so often. A friend of mine mentioned driving past the other day and the shop looked shut down. Possibly they were remodeling the shop? The site is still up.

    Dive Sites from Above

Point Lobos takes considerably longer to get to/from so there would have been a lot less time spent getting to look at things. I had asked about going there. We did get to get about half way from pebble beach to monastery before turning up salinas valley.

    Dive Sites from Above

From what I've been told, the vis in the bay was pretty good this weekend. With all that I had going on diving and or taking out a tour was out of the question. However my surprise fathers day gift was a helicopter ride over the bay. The fog was creeping in on us but our pilot was able to get...

    Lake Tahoe Today

Don't take my comment the wrong way. I hope to get to dive tahoe some day myself. Preferably with a scooter to get the most bang for my buck since I won't get to dive there much. I enjoyed the video and I hope you know I was just joking.

    Monastery Canyon in 3D

The sign reads: STEVE EWART FEB1963-JUL2003 WEWILLRIDEAGAIN I fear I may have lost my photos of it, but there is a plaque on the back side base that said "Restored by Ryan Holmbre 2007" IIRC as well. Not sure how well it was affixed as when I last saw it the plaque was coming up a bit, Didnt...

    Monastery Canyon in 3D

I have images, I'll try to link them. Life wise, lots of large lings, egg yolk jellies and moons, on the south side nearing mono lobo vie seen squid egg patches and large bat rays eating the eggs. Tons of blue rockfish in, large nudies, and the occasional harbor seals.

    New Year's Dive?

Well it just comes down to why you count dives. Is it just to know how many times you have gone underwater? Or do you plan on a certification down the road that requires a certain number of dives? Various certs require a number of dives and if you start logging ones under a certain amount of...

    New Year's Dive?

I think you need 20 minutes of bottom time for it to count as a 'dive' ;).

I was with a group of four divers and we were parked in about the sixth spot along the wall.
