    over vs. under hood

Earlier poster was right - what ever works. I always wear it under my hood. Two reasons - I used to dive frequently in heavy current situations. The mask under the hood kept it in place at times it would have likely been dislodged by the current. Had it happen a time or two and at the...

What was the most influential development in scuba diving?

As an instructor in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, I would say the SPG and BCD combined with changes in training content and methods had the most significant impact on opening the sport of scuba to the more of the masses. As a diver since the late 60s, I'd say the dive computer, Nitrox, digital...

Bad memory? O2 Clean required for less than 40% nitrox

Got caught up in the same debate several years ago when a shop in FL refused to fill my tanks. They banked Nitrox, so I really didn't understand the issue. Did some research and found the industry rules cited in previous posts. Long story short - had all of my tanks O2 cleaned, valves...

    Covid surging in Bonaire

Just an FYI... Returned Sunday, May 30th from two weeks on Bonaire. We were originally booked on American direct into Bonaire, but AA cancelled with no notification. We found out through following Bonaire COVID Facebook pages. We rebooked through Curacao - a bit more costly and more...

    Soft plate

I found that the tank rolls on my back when using a steel tank, so I retired my APEX soft plate. Have not noticed it with AL tanks, so it must be the weight. Quite annoying, so I flipped back to an AL plate when I know I will be diving steel tanks.

    Backscatter removal

I use the method described in the video above. Works great for plain blue to black backgrounds. Does not work as well when there are lighter objects in the background where you want to preserve some detail. In those cases, I go to the healing brush.

Strobes are in great shape. Batteries easily last a 5 dive day (500+ photos), requiring only overnight charge. Yes, they have some dives on them, but they have been well cared for. Make an offer!

Strobes were purchased in October 2014 with Li-Ion batteries. The batteries were recalled and replaced sometime in 2015 with NiMH. Last time I used them was in May 2018. In that time span, I logged just over 500 dives - I take the camera on just about all dives.

    BigBlue Battery questions

I carry one charger for the two lights and spare battery. Even if I did carry two, it is much easier to find nooks and crannies to fit the smaller chargers than the one big one.

    BigBlue Battery questions

The Opus charger/tester looks good, but no way I could travel with that - weight and size are prohibitive with all the other "stuff" I carry.

    BigBlue Battery questions

I've not had much luck using alternate batteries in my BigBlues. Others have, but the ones I picked up would not charge in their chargers. Specs were identical.
