Thanks for the dive report. There is next to no information on dive experiences in Tofino. I will be doing a two tank dive with this operation tomorrow and will post my experience to help those with their decision to consider Tofino for their dive destination.
That is a crazy story! Proves almost anything can happen. Curious what kind of anchor can hook you in the mouth and how the anchor could smack you in the face while at a safety stop?
Thanks for sharing. I will also be mindful of anchor lines in current.
I dove this site a couple years ago as an open water diver with a guide and it appears deceivingly easy/safe. I even had the guide bring us as far as where natural light starts to go away - intimidated by then I stayed back from the group but the other divers followed. I was shocked at how...
I frequently use my Black Berry to surf SB. The mobile display option is very quick and I would love to use it but unless I am missing something whenever I select a thread to view I only ever receive the last post and don't have the options for switching page results - there seems to be no way...
Great post thanks. I had intention of taking the rescue course as well and this just solidifies it for me.
I agree with Coldwater_Canuk the fact that the DM became useless concerns me as I usually dive with Instabuddies and various DMs I am continually learning from my experience and what I...
Hearing about the time frame to an empty tank in this situation scares me. I had the same failure (LP hose disconnect at the 1st stage - which is apparantly rare?) while on the surface prior to giant stride entry. I turned my head and when it disconnected it was so loud it rung my bell!
I am...
I would say you posted in the correct forum! This could be considered near miss and lessons learned. If something unexpected had happened to your buddy during his minor panic (mask leaking) sounds likely that he would have full blown panicked... And what if he was having heart trouble? I...
Glad you are all okay. It must have been terrifying to be left out there - not to mention a storm to add to it!
It is so unfortunate to hear stories like this. When I first started diving I put far too much trust in all dive operations and DMs. There are some real dud operations out there...
Like everyone else... Wow that is a scary story and so sorry you had to experience this. Putting trust of your life in the hands of such an instructor is a sad thing and I hope we all learn the outcome and name of the instructor/operation.
Your very lucky your bf did as well as he did and that...
I did bring a banana on board a boat trip in Maui... And yes the captain took it from me and threw it overboard explaining it was bad luck. It was immediately replaced with a sticky bun :). Can't complain. I thought this was just his phobia until now. I think I may test this theory on all...
That is insane! But very funny. I guess you could say don't try this at home :). If that didn't make you feel panicked I would like to know if you ever have?
Had a DM on two tank boat dive... The last dive was so great that the DM suggested a 3rd dive at the same site at no cost. Could be that the DM wanted to dive again as well but with more than 2000 dives I would be surprised. Have never had that happen before.
That is crazy - bet a good lesson though that any "what ifs" are valid. :)
You may have learned more on that first dive then most with years of experience. Glad you are ok!
On subject of knife redundancy - I read some time ago that shears are prone to failure due to mechanism corrosion so I opt for a knife. Until now didn't consider the different usage for wire leaders etc. Anyone every hear of shears having problems?
Also while in Keys I saw mono at all depths...
I dove the Spiegle and other wrecks in April... Crazy how much fishing line is down on the wrecks. I suppose anyone could unawarely get tangled if not causious. I will never dive any sites in the keys without a knife. Lucky for him you were there! I take it he didn't have a knife of his own...
Thanks for sharing... I expect some people feel there must be something significantly wrong like an equipment failure to thumb a dive. You did the right thing I have been on the verge of that same feeling but had plenty of time to regroup - in a more rushed dive I hope I would have the courage...
Had LP hose burst above water and almost deafened me. Stuck on inflator.
Free flow 2nd stage - corrected.
Primary light malfunction - replaced and happy for backup.
Dive computer blacked out at 90ft - brand new and on 3rd dive.
significant mask leak - cracked and likely due to damage on...
