New to board. What would you do?

I would suggest getting certified and then trying to get in enough dives to be very comfortable with your abilities. If you get to that point and are comfortable with the idea, look into an underwater digital camera. It can be a bit overwhelming for a new diver, but enough local dives where you...

Looking for Travel Tips on a Cruise

I would suggest at a minimum to bring your own mask(s), reg(s), and computer(s)/gauge(s). Though he rentals will probably work fine, you never know how they have been treated. I also travel with my BC, but I prefer a back plate and wing, most rentals are jackets. You can probably live without a...

    Insurance

I had an 8 20' Grady White and now have an 87 Grady White 25'. I paid about $600 for the 20' and $900 for the 25'. I imagine you'd be right in the middle of those. This is for full replacement value for boats kept in the water all summer for ocean use.

Not what you want to happen to your dive boat...

With my 25 footer, I give up my right of way reasonably often. There are plenty of larger boats out there with inexperienced or IQ deficient captains (occasionally compounded by alcohol). One footnote I remember from my Power Squadron class was that the bottom line of the "rules of the road"...

    Suggestions for Tortola?

My wife and I had a great experience with Dive Tortola (www.divetortola.com). We honeymooned there in October of 2007 and the boat always went out even when there were only 3 of us on board. At one point, we swung by a sailboat moored off of one of the islands to pick up a few other divers. They...

    Dominica or Saba?

My wife and I went to Dominica with a group of friends from Florida and had a great time. We stayed at the Fort Young hotel in Roseau (the capitol on the South West side of the island). The diving was great (sea horses and turtles on nearly every dive, frog fish on at least half of our dives and...

    World's Largest Liveaboard

We're actually planning some topside adventure as well. We are doing (at least) 2 dives a day for 5 days. We already booked Ti Tou Gorge and I believe Trafalgar Falls. We're meeting a group there and we'll all figure out the rest together. My wife and I both have decent water shoes (I figure...

    World's Largest Liveaboard

You're welcome. My wife and I actually got our Open Water certs on a cruise. We were in line and got 2 of the last 3 slots. Life could have been completely different if we took a wrong turn. Enjoy your cruise!

    World's Largest Liveaboard

My wife and I had our honeymoon in Tortola and Bonaire. In Tortola, we used Dive Tortola (1-800-353-3419diving@divetortola.com) and had a great time. I’m not sure how they work with cruise ships, but I know we swung by a moored sailboat on the way to a dive to pickup 3 or 4 divers once, so...

    RMS Rhone

My wife and I went to Tortola for the first week of our 2 week honeymoon 2 years ago (second week in Bonaire). The Rhone was great and there were several reef dives that we really enjoyed. But, I'd have to catagorize the diving as decent (maybe Bonaire has spoiled me). The topside attractions...

Weight pouch found at Paddock Rock.

This wasn't a belt, just 1 pouch. But, I emailed them and Daybreaker (no word back from Cape Ann yet). Let me know if you hear from anyone else, I'd be happy to return this stuff.

    What GPS?

I don't know of any waterproof GPSs, but many can take an accidental splash to a shallow depth as long as you recover it quickly (Garmin lists them as “Marine-friendly”). If you’re considering using this for navigating a boat, you want to be sure you can load charts. These will let you know...

Weight pouch found at Paddock Rock.

If I locate the owner or don't hear anything for a few weeks I'll be happy to share. Nothing exciting, just (I believe) unique.

    Diver dies off Rockport

Is that definite? I know he was an older diver and heard he may have been out of shape, but I hadn't heard that an official cause of death had been released.

Dive light found at Paddock Rock.

I also found a fin at Graves Island a few weeks back. If this keeps up, I'll have another spare set of gear. Hmm, another dry suit would be nice, but people don't tend to ditch those. I wonder where I'll do next weeks sub-aquatic shopping. I think the New England Lobsta Divahs are needs a...

Weight pouch found at Paddock Rock.

Yesterday (Monday 9/1) I found a weight pouch at Paddock Rock in ~60’. If its (or you think it might be) yours, PM me with the description and I’ll get it back to you. Let me know color, style, securing method, and describe the weights (which were unique and are now on the sea floor)...
