The main reason that I took AOW is so that I can take Rescue. Deep (100ft) and Nav are required. I also took S&R, DPV, and Night. Nav is something that you will use to some extent on every dive. Bouyancy is something you will use always on every dive. Read these sections in the AOW book...

A simple gate latch may work to hold and release the monster. You know! The kind that has the string to lift the latch and the post that gets hooked. If the monster gets pulled back down by the line through the pully, the latch will grab it untill you pull the release line.

Choose a depth. Head west until you reach that depth. Choose left or right. Keep your depth until you reach turn-around pressure (1500 or what have you). Head east until you run out of water. If you come upon pilings or a bunch of fishing lines, reverse course. Works for me...

I keep my running total in minutes. 1700 so far. If I want hours, days or weeks, I can do the math. But minutes are so much easier to add. -N

Are you limited to boat dives? Will beach dives work? Go through the sequence one item at a time, and eliminate the problem(s) in each. There is a wealth of information on ways to do it right, and also things to avoid so that you don't do it wrong. Listen to TS&M, she's smart! -N
