Dive computer advances in the last decade

Thanks for all the input. Seems like there have been advances, but within the basic level for recreational diving, not enough in my mind to justify a new one. The one thing I saw that I may invest in is a low price puck that is designed to be a backup. Clips on and has multiple algorithms so...

Dive computer advances in the last decade

I started diving 12 years ago, moved to the upper midwest 9 years ago and other than a few trips to the keys (a couple days away from the In-laws over the holidays each year) haven't done much diving in those 9 years. I bought my computer when I first started diving and haven't paid any...

Need info on any shops the provide scuba and snorklers on the same trip in Key Largo

Most of the operators will do snorkel and diver trips. I usually dive with Silent World and have had snorkelers on board many times.

    PCB recomendations

Going to be in PCB in July, looking for some diving opportunities. Been a couple years since I've been wet so looking for recreational diving limits, though I am certified advanced (for what that's worth). :) Will have everything but tanks with me. Ideas?

    New Iowa Divers

I'm in the Quad Cities. Our regular get wet between trips place is Haigh Quarry. About a 3 hour drive, similar to Pearl Lake. I like it, quarries are what they are, it's one of the better ones I've been to.

Travelling to Naples Florida, new divers looking for shallow dives

Wish i could figure out how to get from naples to the keys in 1 1/2 hours....the last 8 times i did it it took 2 1/2. But you are right...its worth the drive...1 1/2 or 2 1/2 hours.

Traveling to Key Largo, what dive shop do some of you recommend?

Another + for silent world. Two recent trips with them. Capt Todd is a great addition to their team. Never seen anyone so focused on making sure his customers get the experience they want.

    Key Largo dive site recommendations.

Not sure about your idea that you can go deaper than you are trained for with a guide....not an expert on cert rules....but IMO you should never dive beyond your training and experience because you are responsible for you, not a guide. My two cents...take it for what its worth. As for dive...

    Nervous about being too cold!

The best investment I made for colder water is a 5/3 hooded vest. I Slip that baby on under my 5mm wetsuit with 5mm socks and gloves and I am comfy down to about 50...I add my 3mm shorty as another layer and I'm good down to 40.

    Diving near Wisconsin Dells, WI?

Depending on how far you are willing to drive, Haigh Quary or Lake Michigan operators out of Milwaukee or Chicago are within 4 hour drive as well.

Looking for Dive Buddy/ies for Summer 2013 Quarry Diving

I am interested in dives after July 4th (end of PONY baseball...from April to July 4th my life belongs to my son and 10 other 11 and 12 year olds). I am in Eastern Iowa and have two buddies that are both new divers as well. Haigh, Lake Michigan out of Chicagoland or WI would be in our range...

Mike's Wreck Identified as Hannah M. Bell

Interesting...I dove Mike's wreck on 11/26...word was not out to the dive captains yet...the captain on our boat specifically noted it had not been identified yet.

    Conditions in Key Largo?

Thanks all.... Elena, I come every year at Thanksgiving. In-laws in Naples so I bring the family down then take a couple days to dive (and get away from the in-laws :) ) Last year was rough, but I got a couple trips in. Hoping for a little better this year, but if not...whatever....last...

    Haigh Quarry Virgin

Was there last weekend. Temps drop at 30 ft as been said but my comp said 58 in the hole at 85ft and 60 at 40. Vis was variable based on how many classes had churned an area up. Overall best quarry ive dove. Love the owners and facilities. Plenty to see if you pay attention. Great for new...

Article: Inconsistent message to new divers

i agree with just about everything you said. but i think what you are seeing is more of an internet message boardthing than a diver thing. the ananymity of the medium makes amazing hypocrits who often feel the need to expound on their expertise and everyone elses failures no matter what he...

    Best places to go diving?

Big fan of Key Largo. Short boat rides, tons of ops, great reefs with lots of life, plus they are barrier reefs so even when the seas are rough, it's pretty calm. 35 ft average depths on most of dives so lots and lots of bottom time. Fly into Ft Lauderdale, get a car and drive down, hour...

The Murals of Denver Airport - Conspiracy?

i tend to lean more toward the murals being just a the most expensive and leftist agenda that could be found during the construction. That airport should be used as a case study, along with the Boston Big DIg, on how corruption and political influence in public works projects works. Best part...

What is your beer of choice?

Dogfishhead 60 min IPA or the 90 if you prefer an even hoppier brew. and the owner is a great guy. Buddy of mine had just returned from Afghanistan a few years ago and met the owner at a beer festival. The owner invited him and his wife up to the brewary, put them up in a local hotel and...
