Started the season with the good luck of great conditions. Went out on Captains Lady with the first dive on the Papoose. Great vis of approx 60' or more with water temps at 70. Best visibility I've ever had on this wreck. Poked around inside the hull break and swam the aft stern section. Always...
I dove the Antilla in nearby Aruba last Wednesday with a water temp of 79 degrees at a little over 50 feet of depth. We were told the temps had dropped considerably from the days before. I was fine with a 2 mm rash guard.
Great conditions going out with one to two foot seas and some overcast. Nice vis on the Schurz (60' plus) with no thermoclines and water temp at 78 degrees. Best all around diving conditions of the season that I've experienced (good dive site call Capt. Terry). Baitfish were abundant but not...
I can highly recommend Discovery Diving and Tortuga Charters out of Beaufort. I've had some good experiences with Olympus as well in Morehead. There are a couple other dive/ops in the area that I've heard good things about like Atlantis and Diver Down on the Altantic Beach Causeway. You really...
I've been on the Naeco about three times with Capt James, bleeding down as mentioned. Well worth the trip, even with the fairly short bottom time (no deco). The clarity of the water has been unbelievable on my times out there. Hope to make many more trips out there to this site. Travel of 1 1/2...
I've had occasional issues with the Dive Optx lenses as well so I've lost confidence in them. I just received the Sea Dive mask from Seaventure with +3 gauge readers. Looks like they might be the answer. Found them at Dive Gear Express. I think they were around $150.
Change of plans. Diving St. Thomas instead of Grand Turk with Blue Island Divers. Trip Advisor gives them very high marks. Hope to get a wreck dive in. This allows me to spend some quality island time with the wife and friends on Grand Turk. The dive op is located at Crown Point Marina where the...
Thanks for the info. I do appreciate the responses. This isn't my first cruise dive so I'm not going in blind, but thanks for the warning. So far I've had only good experiences on such dives at Grand Cayman and Providence with other cruise lines.
My wife and I signed on the cruise a couple of days ago. With the fairly short interval in Grand Turk I decided to go with the cruise associated dive op which I believe is Oasis which seems to have a good reputation. Anyone please let me know if you know otherwise.
I have been diving one for a couple years now and I have been very happy with it. I did get a longer inflator hose since the one that came with mine was too short. I use an OMS ss backplate with it.
I've recently downloaded the DiveLog app for my IPAD. It is interesting to check out the dive statistics that come available as you enter your dives along with maps locations etc. There are a couple others available as well at higher cost but I don't plan on spending a whole lot of time in the...
You can't go wrong with Lee Moore through Discovery as already mentioned. Sometimes they'll try to get another class scheduled if you show the interest and they are able to sign up a few more.
I took the class at our local community college and enjoyed the learning experience. I then took time to self study the areas that the instructor emphasized. Passed the exam at the USCG station in Charleston with one sitting and came away with my license and the towing endorsement. That was over...
Dan,
You should be fine with a 3 or 5 mm suit. Bottom temps low to mid 70s. Colder inshore normally. I dive a 3/2 April to November but you can hit a colder thermocline now and then.
