    OUCH my head hurts

Welcome to the Board! As far as you LDS's reg selection, they seem to have a good number of brands; the only major brand missing I can think of just off the top of my head would be Aqualung. I would assume that all/most of what your shop sells is appropriate for your local diving conditions...

    Sea Kittens

Just found this little tid bit on Wikipedia, thought it was worth sharing: "In January 2009, a school named Spearfish High School was asked to change its name to Sea Kitten High School by PETA. In a letter to Steve Morford, principal of Spearfish High School, PETA said that the new name would...

    Why a snorkel?

Wow, how far would the boat be from shore at a given point? I can see how they feel the need to do everything they can for a potentially dying diver, but to also potentially endanger 20 others... tough call.

    Sea Kittens

We are not alone, but we are very few. Humans, chimps, crows, and precious few others have the ability to use tools. Since 90% of lion hunts fail, I'd say the speed and stamina of a gazelle prove to be pretty effective against the clever but still fragile hunting tactics of the lions...

    Sea Kittens

Our gray matter would be useless without resources to make tools. Show me a human that can outrun or fight off a lion with sheer running power and their bare hands (not He-Man) Speed and stamina are their defenses. Yes I do consider that "natural". In terms of sheer distance, it is not...

    Sea Kittens

JR, you are very right in pointing out Man as an invasive species, as well as lionfish. And of course I agree that ecosystems change, change it was keeps them healthy. By invasive I mean that the species has gotten there by artificial means, such as the lionfish which got from Asia to the...

    Sea Kittens

In a properly functioning ecosystem (by this I mean no invasive species strong enough to severely mess things up) that is absolutely not true. It is not the "responsibility" of humans to look after these ecosystems by "thinning out" select populations of tasty creatures. In fact since a...

    Sea Kittens

I'm confused, is the term sea kitten used for a single type of commonly hunted fish, or fish in general? I could not help but notice that a photo of a real fish was not to be found on the campaign website (and correct me if I am wrong, I could just not find one), perhaps because it would...

Why does PADI make it so hard?

Is a PADI membership really just the magazine and intermittent freebies? Any sort of service provided? Your certification never expires, so the membership seems pretty pointless unless you really like SPORT Diver.

Green moray bites diver's thumb OFF!

Wasn't this a ten page thread like 7 months ago? Still epic. :cool2:

Why does PADI make it so hard?

They keep sending me return address labels; thats appreciated and I haven't given them a dime past certification. :D

    Dumb color choice question

I'll vote blue; looks good and may keep the octo more visible against the darker colors. I'm a sucker for color themes too, I'm going for red and black. Hell, I'm waiting an extra month for the wetsuit I want to come out in red/black. (Well, and also I'm broke)

How many dives did you do in 2008? (end of year trip report)

Only 10! Beat that! But that means next year's count can't really be worse, right? Especially with yesterday's purchase of a regulator and a possible trip to Queensland :cool2:

    Just saying hi

Monterey is worth the cold :D Honduras sounds like it will be awesome, and you're so lucky to have a family member that dives! I've tried unsuccessfully to convert mine.

    Listening to music underwater

Seems like it might be nice to have on deco stops, but otherwise, in an environment where many senses are suppressed and you are almost completely relying on vision, I would think it would be an unwelcome distraction. Plus I'd be worried about the damn thing cracking and destroying my ipod! :D

    Purchasing first new wetsuit. Suggestions?

I'm in the same position as you, first time 7mm shopping. I looked into the ^Aries, looked like an awesome suit. Though now I'm leaning toward the BARE Elastek 7mm because it does have zippered ankles. Oh and I simply love that all my LDS fail to stock anything but outdated Hendersons and...
