You know you're a diver when...

    - you wonder if the capacity of your backup compressor is enough to keep you diving if your main compressor fails. Not kidding. .. seriously. .. :)

If bp and wing are no option try moving your tank up. That will be much more comfortable than wearing your weight belt nerdy style.

    American divers get no respect

Try Belgium... There are quarries there where they will gladly let you in wit a freshly earned 1* certification and frown upon a collection of Padi OWSI + GUE Tech1 + GUE Cave2 cards. CMAS : Certificates Mean Absolutely **** (if not CMAS) as far as the French go. The CMAS standards may be...

Article: But I can’t be bent, my computer says I did everything right

Using a PDC is not enough. Understanding what the PDC does is not enough. Understanding DCS and how to prevent it, understanding the mechanisms of gas exchange and its effects and knowing how to deal with them is not enough. Electronics and knowledge in whatever amounts cannot guarantee 100%...

    Compass issues

A bit late but at the first try the board was offline for maintenance. so at the risk of posting a double answer here goes _thanks to the auto save option of this forum_: If you are swimming ( not diving) in a pool with your eyes closed, it is almost impossible to swim in a straight line. When...

Derelict fishing gear and its related problems

Most divers I'm sure have encountered items like fishing lines or even (parts of) nets under water. These items cause waht is known as Ghost Fishing, meaning that that fishing gear wil continue to hoop, trap en eventually kill aquatic life. Among the animals that get in trouble are all sorts of...

    Compass issues

There is never a total absence of visual reference. Tiny particles are always floating around you. Use them. Make use of the available options, there is never a situation where there are no options. You just need to find them.

    Compass issues

If its sunny, you can use the direction of the light penetrating the water to guide you. Only when there is absolutely no visual reference, keeping the compass within eye shot is useful. Just do not expect spot on navigation. But let's be honest, how often is that a real issue ?

    Compass issues

If 6-10 feet is your max Vis, you will have to adapt the frequency of checking for a new point. Best option is to get your general direction from your compass and find 2 or preferably 3 objects that are as much in line of the direction you are going, constantly looking for more objects...

    Compass issues

Most problems using a compass originate in the user staring at it while swimming. Just point your compass to a point as far away as possible and swim to it. Repeat. It's that easy. If you stare at your compass, you will veer off in one direction.

    Multi Level Diver course ??????

The course is a very old one, it was very useful before dc became cheap and commonplace. So 20 years ago or so it was quite a useful course. Now it is not much more than useful as a tool in understanding the concept behind tables and multilevel diving. There are much more useful specialties...

    Multi Level Diver course ??????

If you are diving with a dive computer the dc will do the math for you. The multi level specialty is about using a analog device to alow you to make multi level dives. You are not breaking any rules. Essentially any dive is a multi level dive. For simplicity, tables are designed for profiles...

Need suggestions about budget dive computer

It is not really a matter of not liking computers. It's more a question of needing (or that lack of that) one. As said, we plan our dives and have a method of adjusting that plan if the average depth or the bottom time changes. Having this method eliminates problems like differing algorithms...
