    Catalina vs Hy-Mark Pony Bottles

The tanks are essentially equal quality but you can get the HyMark in the natural heat treated finish which I personally prefer. You sure the 13 is big enough? A 19 is not much more bulk for the added air.

    Why Steel Doubles?

I don't have any problem diving steel doubles with a wet suit, but I add rigid foam flotation to get me near neutral rather than relying on a partially inflated BC to keep me off the bottom. Much safer and doesn't keep changing with depth.

    Hi, Newb here!

No, I wish I did. I want to use one of the inflators as a manual add on one of my rebreathers.

    double hose regulators...what happened?

I don't remember which was the actual first regulator in my mouth but my initial training was with both single and double hose (a Calypso and a DA). For 99% of my diving, I still slightly prefer a double hose, even on "tech" dives. About the only time I don't dive a double hose is when I am...

    Hi, Newb here!

I like the power inflator on the USD horsecollar better. Shame the USD bladders don't hold up.

    Diving with a Pony

I backmount a 40 CF pony...................but my main back gas is two more doubled 40s.:D

    Why Steel Doubles?

Probably because it is next to imposible to find a non-isolator manifold at a US LDS. Non-isolator manifolds are quite common and easy to find in Europe.

Rigging a pony for a single tank setup??

You may want to consider attaching the pony to your main tank. I prefer to not sling if I expect to use my hands like in spearfishing or photography. For me, tank diameter is more important than length. For an aluminum 30, Luxfer is slimmer (4.87") by almost 1/2 inch compared to the Catalina...

Side mount or Side mount? Which is a better option?

It really depends on how the tanks are oriented with the direction of travel. If either back or side mount is tilted relative to the divers travel, the drag will increase. That is why when I sling or side mount, I often trim the tanks fore/aft with a small weight in addition to adjusting the...

Best set of doubles for ow

I don't particularly like to carry two dives worth of air on on my back for an OW dive, but I do want the redundancy and trim of small doubles. I most often dive with double 40s. I have several sets and just swap between dives. The trim and low profile is great. If I need more air, I dive...

    Wanted: Snark III parts diagram

Cool!!! For reference, do you have the diameter and thickness of the original diaphragm? Thanks,

    Wanted: Snark III parts diagram

What did you use for the high pressure (actually IP) diaphragm?

    Wanted: Snark III parts diagram

Both the Snark III and the Snark III silver use the same mushroom. I can e-mail you slightly higher resolution scans if you need them.

    40m without deep specialty?

I have been to over (below) 100m without PADI Deep Specialty and the PADI Police didn't come after me. I guess that is too deep for the PADI Police.:D But I have been trained, have the experience and the equipment for those dives. The point is, don't dive beyond your Training, Experience...

Side mount or Side mount? Which is a better option?

I don't think so. I have used side mount quite extensivly, including with a pair of 72s. LP72s, even in a minimalist configuration, are bulkier than my triple back mounted 40s. A pair of Faber FX71DVB tanks (3442psi) might be close because they are such small tanks and are slimmer than...

    Small tank question / solicitation

Yes, I have several sets of AL40s and several sets of AL30s. All with custom bands. Some of the vintage 38s were 6.9" diameter and some of the vintage 38 were skinnier (5.5" to 6"?). My tanks are 5.25" diameter. Some with custom manifolds and some with manifolds made from US market modular...

    Wanted: Snark III parts diagram

I use a reproduction silicone single stage diaphragm on my Snark III. I used to use a USD 2 stage diaphragm on it (rotate so the tabs don't hit anything). Do you have a Snark III or a Snark III Silver? They are somewhat different internally.

    Small tank question / solicitation

If you can't find AL50s, look at the AL 40. 5 pounds lighter and really make sweet doubles later.

    blending nitrox

True, they may be 2400+ tanks, but most gas suppliers still only will fill it to 2015psi since they bank fill.
