    Too much fin?

I still have a pair of jet fins for me they are stiff and uncomfortable. I now dive with the Atomic smoke on the water model with spring strap. It seems like some divers like the 40 year old stuff.

Support your Dive shop- Local or not

I support several local dive stores, including Leisure Pro. They have a full service store, instructors on staff, a good repair tech etc. I've actually seen their staff spend more time explaining products to potential customers than some of the stores that are closer to where I live. So, yes...

Help me understand the effects of current on fins

The long free diving fins seem to be best used by free divers so Mares and Cressi and other companies that have long made fins also make fins for SCUBA diving with tanks, weights, dry and wetsuits etc.

Flooded coal mines in North East Pennsylvania?

I second the comments from rjack and JimLap. My hometown once had the largest Anthracite mine in the world. There are many abandoned mine shafts and bootleg mines in the area. It is not uncommon for someone to drown in these collapsing mines. They are very dangerous. Not a dive site at all.

My son just called and he made Staff Sgt!

Hi Air Force: Thank you for your service. I'm no hippy just a coal region guy. I'm a combat vet along with a lot of others in my hometown. I've called in arty and air while looking at the targets. Someone, obviously no veteran, talked about today's technology as a "video game". I do not think it...

My son just called and he made Staff Sgt!

Yep- he does not see them, just gets to kill them. Most times, innocents, women, old men, and kids, the so called "bad guys" are long gone by the time the shells, and bombs drop. Hope your son comes home safe.

BUYING FROM LEISURE PRO vs. THE LOCAL DIVE SHOP

Was at LP about two weeks ago. The usual great selection, and terrific prices, on brand new equipment. It is very obvious that LP buys direct, in very large volume. Any store who will not service equipment is just insuring that customers will be alienated and not come back. I brought my car in...

    KA-BAR USMC Fighting/Utility knife

I was issued a K-bar in Danang in 1969. I still have it. I would never take it diving. Easy to find any sort of dive knife, little, long, short, etc. on most scuba sites or on e-bay. My K-bar still takes a great edge and is always a useful tool for camping and hunting, just not diving.

    Force Fin Sticker shock

Have owned the original pro force fin for some time. It is great for swimming pools, not much else.

How much $$$$$$ do you make?

Yep, interesting indeed. We will have our smug types with their 20k of gear etc. We will also have our students using e-bay and hand me down gear to dive. End is that diving is accessible to all income folks. In NE PA the average family income is well below the national average. We have no...

Split/Paddle, Anything in the middle or other?

I have owned Jets, Rockets, Force fins, Swimmaster, etc. Some of the other fins to consider in this thread would be the first Mares Power Plana fins, and the Power Plana Graphite, some of the first fins using composite materials. I still have both of the Power Plana versions. They are a bit...

Help me pick a quiet new snorkel

I use this snorkel, folds up easy in my BC pocket and it has a quick disconnect to my mask. Price is right and performance is fine. www.leisurepro.com/Prod/CategoryID_959/Context_954/Sort_Stock/DescSort_0/APLSP.html?Hit=1

    Question for instructors out there...

Well, You will get the usual instructors and experts who will say what they would. They will say things like: "I would do anything for my students" etc. etc. Reality is no one knows until the moment. This particular instructor reacted and did so at great risk. Hope he recovers without any long...

Fold up fins, so you can easily walk into the water

If you want to walk up a steep beach or steps, just take off your fins. Hinges work for doors not fins. A nice gimmick and some seem to like them. These fins have been on the scuba market for a few years. It does look as if the market has already spoken.

    unsafe fin clasps in kelp

You will get the usual flippant replies from the usual flippant reply type folks, your OP is a good one and has merit. Having the fin buckle open very easy seems to defeat the security of the spring strap system. Atomic is a good and responsive company perhaps they will agree that the...
