    Fins for Red Sea Liveaboard

I appreciate the warning. When we booked the boat, I couldn’t find many reviews, but I had had a good experience in the past with Explorer Ventures, who also advertise this boat. Hopefully the chef has gotten a bit better recently.

    Fins for Red Sea Liveaboard

I’m starting to pack for my trip (flight is on Monday) and trying to decide what fins to bring: my open heel Quattros or my full foot Quattros. The last few years, I’ve brought the full foots on warm water trips when I knew I wouldn’t be doing any shore diving, but the use of tenders is...

    Sea Serpent Grand/Grand Sea Explorer

Hi Rachel, while the response may have been delayed, the timing is still good. With Stéphane’s help, we made our reservation earlier this week, so now the anticipation can begin. The review you linked did not hurt that at all… crossing my fingers for whale sharks and oceanic whitetips at Brothers.

    Sea Serpent Grand/Grand Sea Explorer

A friend and I are looking to a Red Sea liveaboard in September and are currently considering the Sea Serpent Grand / Grand Sea Explorer (my understanding is that it’s the same boat, and spots are sold by both companies). I haven’t been able to find any recent trip reports or reviews (I don’t...

Help me choose! Olympus, Sea&sea or Ikelite for TG-6 setup

Some combination of familiarity (I have an Ikelite housing for my old camera), I like the “overkill” depth rating compared to the Olympus housing, and the shop I work at sells Ikelite... admittedly, my opinion of non “third-party” housings is probably biased by the fact that Canon’s housing for...

Help me choose! Olympus, Sea&sea or Ikelite for TG-6 setup

Full disclosure: for some reason the UFL-3 is being sold in Canada for the same price as it is in the US, so with exchange rates, it costs about 25% less here than it would if I bought it in the US. I will, however, take a look at the Backscatter combo.

Help me choose! Olympus, Sea&sea or Ikelite for TG-6 setup

Hey guys, I’m looking for a little advice, wondering if I’m leaning in the right direction. I’ve decided it’s time to upgrade from my almost 10 year old point-and-shoot Canon and its little on-board flash. I have an Olympus TG-6 on the way and will be getting the Ikelite housing for it. The...

Looking for FL keys recommendations for early/mid November

I’m honestly not sure what I’m expecting... what SHOULD I be expecting? I was already considering something like that when somebody mentioned diving in Pompano Beach earlier in this thread. Splitting the drive to Orlando, especially after a morning of diving (most likely) is appealing.

Looking for FL keys recommendations for early/mid November

After a quick Expedia search (not sure why I hadn’t looked before, honestly) and a few expletives, Key West is definitely not happening... the only 2 options under $400 (Canadian) per night was an expensive bed in a 10-bed dorm at a hostel or a resort for gay men (and I am neither a man, nor...

Looking for FL keys recommendations for early/mid November

Hey guys, I’ll start this by saying I have never dove in Florida, so I need some help. I’ll be going to DEMA in Orlando in mid-November and planning to fly down a few days to a week early to do some diving, and I was thinking of the Keys. My rough plan is to fly into Fort Lauderdale or Miami on...

    West End Roatan hotel recommendations

Thanks for pointing out that list, I’d missed it before. Currently eyeing the Bay Side Hotel which was definitely not there last time I was there but the research continues for now.

    West End Roatan hotel recommendations

Hey guys, I’m looking into options for a potential last minute trip to Roatan sometime in April. I’d probably be diving with Coconut Tree, so anything around Halfmoon Bay would be good. Last time I was there was 5 years ago and I stayed in their DMT accomodation, so I really have no frame of...

    My drysuit dilemma...

As somebody else pointed out, I got bad advice. My suit was delivered just before one of their demo days events; a bunch of people from my shop were going so I demoed my own suit and accessories that I was considering and/or my boss test for sales purposes. Faith Ortins, the then VP of sales...

    My drysuit dilemma...

Four years ago, I bought my first drysuit: a made to measure DUI CLX450. Somewhere during the process, a mistake was made and in some areas the suit is smaller than it should be. If the water is warm enough for thin underwear, I’m in luck, but if I need thick underwear and layers getting the...

Coz on a budget: 2tank Dive Hostel? Best bang for buck dive ops?

And the winning combination is... Tres Pelicanos and Casa Mexicana. I "splurged" a bit on the hotel, but my flights were cheaper than initially anticipated so it all works out.

Coz on a budget: 2tank Dive Hostel? Best bang for buck dive ops?

Price was my main reservation for them, but they have the only website I've seen so far that implied afternoon dives were possible. At the end of October, I imagine there would be enough interest for PM at most shops?

Coz on a budget: 2tank Dive Hostel? Best bang for buck dive ops?

Thanks for the responses so far guys. Definitely some more research to be done, but looks like Aldora is the current front runner for diving, as they seems to offer more dives per day...
