    Dauin or Dauin plus Anda

Spend a week in May and in October 2019, before COVID, at Pura Vida Resort in Dauin. Loved it. The local macro diving was very good. It is seasonal. May had many hairy frog fish and flamboyant cuttle fish. October was great for wonderpus and mimics, 6 on one dive. Plus lot lot more. Apo island...

Easy and great diving before Dumaguete

Anilao would be an easy access from Manila airport. I stayed at Blue Ribbon, they picked me up and dropped me off at the airport. Very friendly staff, nice quite hotel, good diving. I have done Dauin and Anilao on a trip a couple of times. Great fun.

    Divemaster Instructor recommendations

I did my dry suit course at Two Jack Lake too, 10 minutes from my house. The first time and last time I dove and Canada. I need warm water. :-) Can't wait to go back to Philippines, hopefully next year. Threshers were awesome, seen them on all the visits to Malapascua. But not on every shark...

    Divemaster Instructor recommendations

I have been at Thresher Shark Divers in Malapascua at least 6-7 times. I went for diving and we had DM trainees on the boat with us. They were very professional and the diving was pretty good too. I think 12 days is too short to do the course. There is a lot of studying involved, plus you want...

    Indonesia Recommendations Welcome

I think you might be optimistic but ... Cathay Pacific and EVA have direct flights from Toronto to Asia. From Ottawa, you might be able to fly to Vancouver and onto Asia. Check Flighthub.ca I have been on Amira 5 times, and I love the boat and it's crew. I have done trips to Komodo before a...

    Jakarta Airport Hotel Question

FM7 is really nice. 2km from the airport. Free pick up and drop off. Uniformed staff pick you up on your arrival. The hotel has a good restaurant and coffee shop. Spa is highly recommended after overseas flight. I really enjoyed a good night sleep there.

Island Hopping Scuba (El Nido <=>Coron or similar)

If using Air Swift, prepay your luggage on line. It is much more at the airport. Otherwise they are efficient and the only airline flying to El Nido, they own the airport.

    6 dive days - where?

I been to Daun two times last year. That would be my choice. I stayed at Pura Vida and enjoyed it very much. It is not only macro, but that's what I wanted. Apo Island day trip was great, lots of snakes and turtles. They also do a day trip to Oslob for whale sharks. Both trips were great but...

    6 dive days - where?

Stick to one place. Dauin and Malapascua are both great. You would enjoy diving both places. There are plenty of dive sites at both locations to keep you busy.

    January - where to dive?

For South Leyte, try to fly to Cebu City. Avoid Manila airport. I used to say it even before issues with Taal volcano. I wish I was going too, instead I am working in -20C weather. :-)

Where to stay in Malapascua and Dauin?

Thresher Shark Divers and staying at Tepanee resort. I like that dive shop, been there 5 times, Tepanee is really nice, great food, private beach. Book early if you want sea view rooms. Pura Vida in Dauin was great. I have been a couple of times. Great diving and garden rooms were great.

Locations for Diving in Philippines this February

Try to fly into Cebu and avoid Manila completely. South Leyte is very good choice, good diving and it's whale shark season. Look up Peter's Dive resort. Malapascua is a really chill island and also good diving. Thresher Shark Diver organized my transport from Cebu City and a good pro operation.

Sabang vs Dumagute vs Rombon for macro\muck dives in April

I dove Anilao and Dauin in May this yearand a similar trip in October. I did enjoy both locations but I think there was more variety in Dauin. May was really good for hairy frog fish and flamboyant cuttlefish. October was really good for a wonderpus and other varieties of octopi.

    Flights to Manado

I have flown Garuda Airlines from HK to Sorong via Jakarta and the flight was cheaper then Jakarta to Sorong. Garuda was really good with my luggage, no extra charges, 50LB checked in. The Davao to Manado route restarted at the end of Sept, I would like to find out how that is going. It looks...

    Whale Sharks 2020

Yes Cenderwasi, whale sharks next to the fishing platforms. The rest of the diving there is so so. I loved Placencia, it is a great little spot. And I like other diving there other then whale sharks at Gladden Split. But like other places, they get busier and it's not the same anymore.

    Whale Sharks 2020

Whale shark sitting have declined over the years in Placencia. And even with regulations in place to limit divers in Gladden Split and more fees. If you want to see Whale Sharks it's not a to go place anymore. I used to go every year in April for 7-8 years, I never been zeroed out for the whole...
