What are the biggest challenges for female divers compared to men?

NOT many. The weight of the gear is a major problem for me while drysuit diving here in New England (diving with one steel 100 tank - just rec but an avid diver). I don't weigh much and have medical issues that signficantly add to the difficulty of carrying the necessary weight. Diving here...

    DM blew me off

Yes - I have been there - no need to panic, just climb the ladder if need be. Thanks for the reminder to pay attention to air consumption while reinforcing that safety stops are just that - added protection for extra safety but not mandatory within no deco. When on dive trips with multiple...

    Cenote Diving?

I see many have already chimed in but have to say - we dove Dos Ojos a few years ago and it is still on our top ten list, it was fantastic! Well worth the day off drift dives to do it, it is surreal, like you are on another planet. Diving in Coz is my favorite but you MUST experience a cenote...

    Bent in Belize--Blue Hole Incident

I agree with Mike's point to dive with more experienced divers and learn from them. That being said, although many dumb mistakes were made here and luckily they weren't fatal, there is certainly the ability to learn from mistakes - it is part of life. I give credit for sharing and admitting...

A cry for help. Destruction of cozumel starting in 2013

WOW - I am still digesting (and researching) this incredibily important issue which came to my attention on Scubaboard - so thanks to those posting and bringing this to my attention. Maybe something will come of it.

If you could only have one tank, what would it be?

Yeah - win the lottery! Here in the real world my choice, I love my steel 100 tanks. I weigh about 110 pounds but I like the larger tank - more air and no more weight at the end of the day.

Dan wants to protect divers from the dangers of Lionfish

I think if people were serious about wanting a predator to be able to eat lionfish then they would just leave them alone. If they do not hunt lionfish and allow them to become numerous on the coral reefs then big groupers, snappers and sharks would be much more likely to eat them because there...

Dan wants to protect divers from the dangers of Lionfish

This is why Pic from my last trip. They don't belong in the Caribbean and they are eating everything they can with no predators there - very happy they are tasty!

Accident at Lake Rawlings Sunday 05/27/2012

I feel so bad for this loss. I agree that in a cold, limited viz location 6 to 1 is too high for new divers getting certified. I also agree that visibility (and water temp/gear) should be considered for per student standards. My certification was at Dutch Springs, PA - cold and murky. No...

Overcoming grief via SCUBA? My own thoughts.

...lastly the mere fact that we are underwater where gravity no longer matters, where we are able to just float and enjoy the feeling of being weightless, and where the water isolates us from the noise of the surface world, we are able to relax. And relax in ways that are not possible on the...

Coast Guard, good Samaritan rescue divers near Beaufort, NC

.... in reality Capt Terry would have ended up running them over cause he was headed in the right direction ? You thought he rocked before...what was the problem? Going too fast? Getting there too slow? Not paying attention?

You have one dive on Grand Cayman before you die, what site would you dive?

I love Hepp's Pipeline - my favorite shallow dive on GC. I also love Black Forest on the North Wall.

    Dive Operations enforcing rules

Totally agree with the 500 psi rule - just depends on the circumstances and the rule is mainly to protect the inexperienced. Don't agree with the gloves (in warm water) - it is not just designed for the least experienced but also for the least environmentally senstive. I have seen experienced...

New to Forum and have a Question

You should not need 5 mil but a skin will not help keep you warm if you dive for a full week - if you don't want to buy a 3 mil get a vest to wear over your skin to keep your core warm. Have Fun!

    Divers Down watch out!

I was thinking the same thing - this group decided to hire a charter rather than "gamble" on the cruise ship cattle boat experience - I think they have a right to expect a somewhat higher standard and level of service on a charter. Their level of inexperience on a chartered trip really should...
