    Diving in Dallas area?

Thanks for the extra info regarding the DIN regs, ZZZ. And thanks for the invite Harry. I'll be sure to check for buddies when I get there. I'll be house-bound at my daughter's and would welcome the chnce to get in as much diving as I can. But I'll be looking for buddies during office hours...

    Diving in Dallas area?

Thanks guys...sounds like I might want to dive at Clear Springs! Guess I better bring both suits, though. Might as well schlep all my stuff while I'm at it. Wonder if they have tanks with DIN fittings. The adapter I have punches the back of my head something fierce.

    Diving in Dallas area?

So, I'll be visiting my daughter in Forney mid-September and I want to get wet. My son-in-law plans to get certified between now and then, so I guess I'll have a buddy. But I thought thought I would ask SB members familiar with the area where they go. Also, what thickness wetsuit is used...

    F.I.T. Lens Adapter for WP-DC21/G9

According to the description, it can only be used with close-up lenses. Probably there would be too much vignetting with a wide angle.

Wide angle lens - Which one?

I'll pick up an Ikelite housing and flat port for my G9 when I visit my daughter in the States in a few weeks. But I am trying to decide which wide-angle lens to buy. Is there a visible difference between them? Thanks in advance for your recommendations! Phil

    Which editing software?

Another to consider is GIMP. Open source and free. Does everything I am ever likely to need. Did I mention that it's free? :) HTH Phil

    Ikelite G9 housing question

Thanks very much guys! This won't be the first time I've had to make an adapter. Time to head to the hardware store and see what's available. Thanks again! Phil

    Ikelite G9 housing question

I am trying to find out if the arm supplied with the Ikelite G9 housing is removable and if it is, is there a standard tripod socket on the housing itself? Reason being, I have a set of YS-60s I would like to use, along with H-W TTL adapters instead of buying new strobes. Thanks in advance for...

    Housing for Canon G9

Out of curiosity, is the handle on the Ikelite housing removable? If I go for the Ikelite housing, I'd rather use my YS-60's assuming there's a tripod socket on the Ike. Phil

    Red Sea diving - Hurghada

Between the two, I would recommend Sharm as having better diving. There are a number of world-class sites within easy boat range: The wreck of the Thistlegorm, the reefs in the Straits of Tiran, etc. best regards, Phil

    Redundant Bouyancy

This has certainly been an interesting thread! But at the end of the day, I still don't understand why some folks are so vehemently opposed to a redundant wing. Seems to me that redundancy is good. The potential for a runaway inflator can be solved by planning to inflate the redundant bladder...

    General diving info - Croatia

Hey guys, Thanks very much for taking the time to post the information about diving in Croatia! One of my buddies and I were in the pub last night discussing where to go in May 2008 for a week of diving. We've been going to the Red Sea for the past 5 years and decided it's time for something...

Standard BC vs Backplate and Harness

Hi Retro, I'm in the process of switching to a bp/w after diving a back inflate Seaquest Balance for the past 5 years. I love the Balance, but I am starting to dive doubles, hence the switch. If I was going to remain in singles, I would not bother changing. If you think there's a chance you...

    Sweet new Oxycheq/ Solus light

I don't know if anyone considered this, but the dollar has been weakening steadily against the Euro for some months now. I looked at the Solus website to see what was going on, and the price for the light has not increased. What I suspect you are seeing is an adjustment to compensate for the...

    Terror on my 12th dive

To the OP: I share your pain. My fourth post-certification dive was with an "instabuddy". Because visibility is often 3-5 meters where I dive, as well as being pitch black deeper than 10 meters, he wanted to use a buddy line, essentially handcuffing us to each other. Before the dive, he...

Thinking about Red Sea diving in dec/jan...questions

I would agree with Asser...Dahab would be a nice place for you and your family. And you will all be quite safe. As it happens, I am retired American military and have gone to Egypt the last four years in a row. I've never felt less than welcome. I think you and your family would have a...

OW in Egypt: which school would you choose?

The only operation I personally have dived with in Sharm was Camel. Good center with it's own inexpensive but nice hotel. Great bar, too! A buddy of mine did his AOW with them and was satisfied. No doubt you'll get lot's of suggestions for good schools. Phil

OW in Egypt: which school would you choose?

If it were me, I would go to Dahab or Marsa Alam because the dives are from shore. A group of us went to Marsa Alam a couple of years ago and one of the guys did his Open Water there. Good safe training on a lovely house reef. I can specifically recommend Red Sea Diving Safari's camp at Marsa...

Thinking about Red Sea diving in dec/jan...questions

Hi Jack, Great that you are thinking about making the trip! It's a long one for you, but I believe you will find it worth the effort. Here are my answers based on my own experiences. Water temps around 70-75 degrees in January. I went three years in a row in Jauary...once to Sharm and...
