POLL: What was your first dive computer and would you buy it again?

Orca Edge in 1989. Still have it…works great. If it was 1989, I'd buy it again in a flash. Lots of great memories with that computer. These days, I dive a Suunto Cobra with a Stinger as backup when I dive Open Circuit.

    Meg Scrubber Question

I have a Cis scrubber in my Meg. I have dived another unit with the standard scrubber in it....couldn't tell them apart. Ryan

Does anybody know the diameter of a meg?

Yep....I second that. Somehow the DIY gig never works out. Write the check. Ryan

Rebreather for tech diving, need suggestion's

Did Madmole call the Prism a Volvo? I thought that was quite original...that's what I expected to get your dander up! ;-) Ryan

Rebreather for tech diving, need suggestion's

fltekdiver, Hi...jumping in kinda late here. I own and dive MK15's, an Inspiration and a Meg. (Bought in that order) I like them all for different reasons, but when I have to pick one to go with me on a trip it's the Meg. MK's are really uncluttered. No counterlungs on the chest to get in...

    Innerspace

Ditto... Love my Meg. You need to get Curt's Armadillo sidemount harness, too. It looks very streamlined. Curt, are you finished with the Meg specific mod's yet? Ryan

DCS in my OW checkout dives.

Jimmy, I've been diving for 14 years and have more than a 1000 dives...many of them below 200'. I've had mild symptoms that I've ignored for years... Short version of the story, I recently got bent in Grand Cayman (type 1 &2). Turns out I have a PFO. Make sure the Dr. does a "Bubble...

PFO-An open letter of thanks to George Irvine (long)

I have Kaiser insurance in Northern California. We've had good experiences with them...they generally have proven to be pretty proactive. Anyway, my Dr. really knows very little (almost nothing) about diving, and its effects on my PFO. I did a lot of research and brought about 50 pages of...

PFO-An open letter of thanks to George Irvine (long)

DD, What's the follow-up? Are you back in the water, yet? Notice any differences? I got bent in Grand Cayman a month ago, and upon returning had a PFO test--positive. Pretty good size one, too. I meet with the Cardiologist tomorrow for another visit after the bubble study test the week...

    Pre-Newbie questions

Welcome to the Rebreather forum. You will really enjoy the benefits of closed circuit diving. You are asking good questions, ones that will be adressed in your training. You hit the nail on the head at the end of your first question...very little He is absorbed by the body....therefore the...

Better Time Zero gravity or Inner space

Right you are, Doug... We are definitely in a small minority. It's good to meet up with other divers so we can plan future dive adventures! Looking forward to our next dive trip! Ryan

Better Time Zero gravity or Inner space

Hi Doug, Nice to meet you at ZG. Nice web site...but what WERE you thinking with that 28degree water ice dive??? No wonder you've spent so much time in the Carribean....you're trying to THAW OUT!!! Anyway, it was nice diving with you. The night dive down the wall was memorable. Look...

    derin/nylon?

Not aware of any O2 problems, but nylon is hygroscopic (absorbs water & changes form). Delrin is a better choice for parts exposed to water. OSHA, the Navy and other government agencies do not allow acetal (Delrin is a brand name) in breathing loops due to potential off gassing...but it is...

    Sea Cure mouth piece

I have the SeaCure on a couple of my rigs (including the Inspiration.) I used them on OC and brought them with me to CCR. I think they work fine...I think it's the Posidon one that fits the Inspiration DSV. I did bite one too hard while molding it, and did notice my bite caused some breathing...

Oxygen myopia & Skin bends on rebreather

Two seperate issues, first is optical illusions following repeated exposure to PPO2's of 1.4 for a couple of dive days while rebreather diving. Both times this phenomon have occured, the oxygen exposure limits were not extreme. The first occurance was on day two of a week long dive trip. Dive...

    Haskel Pumps?

Regarding Gordons' booster...I find it to be pretty good at boosting O2 into my 20cu ft tanks or spheres, but bumping He is mind numbing slow... Really shows how compressible helium is....

    No longer about the features

BJD, No judgement... We all accept the risks we are willing to accept. I do respect your point on the issue of your responsibility as an instructor. My post was not intended to pacify or belittle but mearly state my slant on the issue. I do not like the way groups of people will sometimes...

    No longer about the features

RB, I agree with you on this. I don't think that having the battery (especially a lithium battery) in the breathing loop is a great design. It disuaded my from buying an Inspiration for quite some time. However, I also don't think it is as big an issue as some people are making of it...

    No longer about the features

Totally agree with you on this Kent. All ECCR's are adequate for most tec/rec divers. There will always be discussions about which features offer the most benefit, but the simple fact of the matter is this...most newbies won't wait. People by nature are impulsive, and even though one...
